Animal Shelter Struggles as Sick Animals Fight Pet Food Poisoning
Lago Vista PAWS Animal Center has not escaped the escalating disaster caused by contaminated pet food. The no-kill shelter has had a high number of sick puppies, dogs, and cats.
Lago Vista PAWS president Andrea Phillips says, “Even though we realize it was not in the least intentional, and that we couldn’t have known the food we were feeding was dangerous, we and our volunteer staff are suffering a lot of guilt — along with the sadness of losing the lives of a couple of our shelter cats. And our mounting vet bills are adding to our stress and worry.”
Phillips says their veterinarians and volunteers are helping out as much as they can, but the shelter uses every dollar that comes in to provide for their animals’ daily needs. They have no funds in reserve to cover medical emergencies such as this one.
Donations for the Medical Emergency Fund can be sent to Lago Vista PAWS, PO Box 4100, Lago Vista, TX 78645. To make an online donation, go to www.lvpaws.org and click on Network for Good near the bottom of the right-hand column.
