K9 Magazine & ‘Dog Listener’ Stan Rawlinson – An Apology & Warning
Stan Rawlinson aka The Dog Listener – if you WERE thinking of using this man’s services be warned, there are things you need to know about his history of professional conduct. Please contact us if you require further information on why we have had to issue advice on this individual – something we have never had to do before or since with ANY dog related company, service or product.
Let us state right out the outset, Stan Rawlinson – the self titled ‘DogListener’ lies. He lies publicly and he lies often. If you are to appoint a dog trainer or any professional, you really do need to consider whether you want to entrust your services to an established liar. This man lies and decives and has developed a reputation for it. Reputable firms have followed our lead and he has found himself dropped from previous associations he once forged for himself. Like us, he probably invited himself in to an association in an attempt to boost his own public perception. But like us, other firms have also disassociated with him. We were wrong to allow him to associate with us and happy to now set the record straight.
UPDATE: Stan Rawlinson (Doglistener) Caught Out in Credentials Deception
We are very, very sorry we allowed ourselves to be duped in to publishing any items associated with Stan Rawlinson in connection with the K9 Magazine brand. It was a grave error of judgment on our part. Read on for further details.
Update: K9 Magazine wishes to point out that Stan Rawlinson who refers to himself as ‘Dog Listener’ is in no way connected to Jan Fennel who is known world wide as “The Dog Listener”. A statement to clarify on behalf of Jan Fennel’s organisation reads as follows:
“We would like it to be known that Mr Rawlinson is in NO way connected to our company or our world wide “Dog Listener” Organisation. “
K9 Magazine wishes to apologise to our readers for a lapse in judgement when appointing a self-proclaimed ‘expert’ to our K9 Magazine Animal Advisory Panel.
In 2005 we were approached by a man by the name of Stan Rawlinson.
Mr Rawlinson refers to himself as the ‘Dog Listener’ and explained to us that he wished to boost his media profile and would be keen to write articles for K9 Magazine and advise on our K9 Magazine Animal Advisory Panel.
UPDATE: Stan Rawlinson (Doglistener) Caught Out in Credentials Deception
We receive many, many unsolicited requests from people who would like to write for us and in 90% of cases we simply do not have the space available to offer an opportunity unless the contributor is of a suitably high caliber. We take a great deal of care when screening applications from prospective writers and even more so in the case of advisors.
Having received numerous complaints about the conduct of Mr Rawlinson on several dog related discussion forums, including one published by K9 Media Ltd (publisher of K9 Magazine) and having been alerted to a number of questionable practices deployed by him in an attempts to deceive and mislead dog owners about his identity, we accept that our decision to allow Stan Rawlinson to associate his name with K9 Magazine was a grave error of judgement on our behalf and we wish to take this opportunity to aplogise to our readers for this lapse of judgement and especially to the members of the K9 Magazine Animal Advisory Panel who may feel their position has been compromised by our decision to allow Mr Rawlinson to serve on our panel.
For any readers who have been prompted to seek dog training advice from Mr Rawlinson as a result of his association with K9 Magazine, we urge you to contact us as soon as possible.
Thank you.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: It has come to our attention since posting this message that a number of inappropriate comments regarding Mr Rawlinson have been submitted. These posts will not and cannot be published and our screening process will filter such postings. Please understand, this post is here simply to bring to the attention of our loyal readers that we made a lapse in judgement on this occassion in relation to this individual and convey publicly that we have taken measures to rectify our error. Any specific complaints about Mr Rawlinson’s conduct, which are not directly related to his previous association to K9 Magazine should be directed through appropriate channels of complaint and not aired here, thank you. Legal advice precludes us from discussing this issue in further detail at this time as a libel action is to be issued shortly. More information will be provided in due course. Thank you for your understanding and to everyone who has sent us emails. We appreciate your kindness.

Was surprised that you had him in k9 magazine to be honest. I’ve seen some of the antics you mention in this piece and thought it reflected bad on you. Well done for holidng your hands up to a mistake anyway many wouldn’t.

I have also seen this person in action on dog forums and found him to be a total bully which makes me wonder how he is with dogs. Glad K9 has made this decision.

I don’t know the background but I do know that there are a lot of self-styled experts out there who have no credibility. They make wild, unsupported statements about dogs, they swim against the stream with training methods and so on.
btw, I thought your own Jan Fennell was The Dog Listener, per the title of her wonderful book.
Good for you for alerting your readers. People always think more highly of someone who can admit they made a mistake than someone who insists they are right all the time.

As others have said well done on taking positive steps. Far too many people nowadays giving themselves titles and calling themselves one thing or another. I always thought doglistener was one of the sillier names and seems an obvious attempt to cash in on dog owners. Kudos on being big enough to be open about this.

Wow i just had a look at this guys website. Talk about a prime candidate for a watchdog expose!!!! He seems to have given himself a membership number to an organisation he is also the president and founder of and uses the letters against his name as if they are some sort of recognised qualifiation.

I had a look at his site. It seems he wants to be some kind of celeb dog trainer he really tries to make himself seem more important than he is. I say well done for taking the decison and well done for being honest enough to admit you made a mistake. Dog owners trus what they see in print and it looks like they are better off forwarned about this person.

Finally!!!! Thank god someone has finally seen this loon for the liar he is. He is a disgrace to the dog training profession and seeing his name appearing in magazines and on websites makes my head spin. I’ve personally seen him give out advice which is downright dangerous so another one saying well done to k9 magazine for publishing this.

Well Done K9 Magazine for having the decency and guts to admit you made an error of judgement and were misled on this occasion. You should be proud of the fact that you were prepared to stand up and say you got it wrong, extra congratulations on not tryng to hide or blame others! Keep up the great work and keep an eye out for ‘experts’ and other charlatans who can cause more problems than they can solve.

Another person here paying credit to k9. I used to be a member of his site and personally know some people who have seen his methods at close quarters. He believes his own hype and he uses complusion in his training. He ‘markets’ himself as a positive trainer but just watch how he conducts himself as a person and see if you believe for a minute that he’s a positive trainer. If you disagree with him for whatever reason he’ll threaten you and rant on about how he’s one of the top trainers in the country. He’s nothing of ths sort as you have now realised. If you are going to use compulsion in training at least have the guts to admit it. It wouldnt suprise me though if he doesn’t even understand what it is. He has huge gaps in his knowledge on dogs and should not be hellbent on passing his flawed methods onto other vulnerable owners.

No point in leaving a positive comment, as they are all being deleted.
I believe you shouldn’t judge someone – positively or negatively – until you have met them in person.

KL. Stan certainly doesn’t heed your advice. Nor should he. I’ve never met Hitler, Ghandi, Pol Pot, Mother Theresa or Fred West but I feel equipped enough to judge them based on what I do know. I along with others have offered praise to K9 Magazine for taking this stance. All they’ve done is apologised for THEIR error of judgement.

Wow. This guy is everywhere!
How does he ever find time to even work with dogs, let alone be considered as the UK’s “premier” canine expert?
He seems to spend all of his time cruising the various dog sites, boards, article comment sections, forums, and YouTubes (Cesar Millan and Brad Pattison are his favorite YouTube targets) looking for victims.
His latest personality on YouTube appears to be “AboutDogTraining3″.
This is one disturbed dude.
