New Companion Animal Welfare Award Launched

New Companion Animal Welfare Award introduced by UFAW

The Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW) has launched a new annual animal welfare award to recognise significant innovations or advances for the welfare of companion animals, and is now inviting applications for the inaugural, 2009, Award.

The UFAW Companion Animal Welfare Award is open to all individuals or organisations working in the field of companion animal welfare science such as research scientists, veterinarians and others. UFAW is particularly encouraging applications relating to genetic welfare problems; detection and alleviation of pain; and diagnosis and treatment of painful diseases – although it will be pleased to receive applications in other fields also. The winner will receive £1,000 together with an Award certificate.

“As a scientific and educational animal welfare charity, one of UFAW’s main priorities is to promote and support high quality science that will lead to substantial advances in animal welfare,” says UFAW CEO and Scientific Director James Kirkwood. “We are delighted to add the new Companion Animal Welfare Award to help promote companion animal welfare research and recognise organisations that have improved the welfare of companion animals.”
