Leading veterinary charity, PDSA, is pleased to announce that its brand new, state-of-the-art Kirkdale PetAid hospital will open to pet patients on Monday 29 September 2008.

The new PetAid hospital, located on Celia Street, will be officially opened by a special guest at 10.30am. Veterinary staff will treat the first pet patients at 2pm.

The hospital replaces the sadly out-dated and out-grown premises on Richmond Terrace, Everton which permanently closes on Friday 26 September. There will be no changes to the existing service at Huyton PDSA PetAid hospital in Woolfall Heath Avenue.

The new Kirkdale PetAid hospital is the most advanced PDSA facility in the country and the first to house both a dental and diagnostic theatre for pet patients. It contains six consulting rooms, digital X-ray room, feline and canine recovery wards, a critical care ward for infectious cases and a separate recovery ward for rabbits and small furry pets; another first for PDSA.

PDSA Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Stephen McArdle, says: “The staff at Everton PetAid hospital have been eagerly watching the new Kirkdale hospital take shape over the past few months. We are all excited at the prospect of treating local pets using these wonderful, state-of-the-art facilities.

“After we open on 29 September, eligible clients can book appointments for their pets by calling call 0151 9336260. Until then please continue to use Everton PetAid hospital.”

PDSA has been providing its free veterinary service to Liverpool pet owners since 1927. Together, the Kirkdale and Huyton PDSA PetAid hospitals will treat around 300 sick and injured pets every day on Merseyside.

PDSA receives no government or lottery funding and relies entirely on public support, such as donations, legacies and trading, to fund its PetAid services. As well as free veterinary treatment, all of PDSA’s PetAid hospital’s and branches now provide a range of preventive treatments, including vaccinations, neutering, flea and worm treatments, and microchipping.

To be eligible for PDSA help, pet owners must be in receipt of either Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit and live within the designated postcode catchment area of a PDSA PetAid service. The catchment areas for the new Kirkdale PetAid hospital are L1-13, L15, L17, L20-23, L29-30, L38 and CH41-CH49.
