Heroic Army Dogs Are Living in Squalid, Hellish Conditions

Army dogs are living in shocking conditions and are forced to endure hours of squalor, according to revelations in a national newspaper.

These dogs, including German Shepherds, Labradors and Spaniels, are spending over 20 hours per day locked up in hellish confinement.

The dogs are becoming more and more unhappy due to these poor living conditions and a source has told the Sun newspaper “The animals are vexed and unhappy, which makes them more dangerous and unpredictable, and means they take longer to train”. These training duties include bomb and weapon detection and front-line duties.

A Veterinary Standards Inspection was carried out and a rebuild deemed as the only option for the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray.

An insider said:

“Dogs sleep in ancient sheds with concrete floors covered in hay”

“You wouldn’t keep your lawn mower in them”

“They keep it clean but it’s like polishing a t**d”

Repairs to the kennels have been stalled for 3 years because Army Officials and Realm, the contractors who own the kennels, cannot agree who should pay.

The licence was revoked from the private contractors, Realm Services, because of the way they ran their site.

The Sun newspaper has reported that Realm Services have refused to comment on this matter.

At another site, 30 plus front-line dogs are currently homed in temporary cages because the kennels are inhabitable. This site at Culler Barracks in Aldershot has been branded unfit to home the dogs by MoD’s Veterinary Standards Inspection team. This was back in June.

Insiders say Royal Army Veterinary Corps blame lack of funds for such poor conditions.

When discussing the importance of the dogs, one senior at NCO told the Sun newspaper “There is great demand for them and we can’t train enough” and “They’re precious in combat and often do the work of ten men”.

The MoD reported that all requirements for the training and handling of these dogs was met. They also said that they had full access to vets.
