Fun in the sun at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s Annual Reunion

Hundreds of animal lovers arrived in Battersea Park on Sunday to celebrate Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s 14th Annual Reunion, including Hollywood superstar, Orlando Bloom. Television stars Stella Gonet and husband Nicholas Farrell also came along with their daughter to soak up the sun and start the search for a new rescue dog. Stella said;

“I grew up with rescue dogs so they have always been a big part of my life. We have come to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to rehome a dog because we are keen to offer a new start to a dog who has, for whatever reason, lost its home.”

It was great to see so many of our furry friends; Battersea dogs who have found loving new homes, as well as non-Battersea dogs who came along to enjoy the unique atmosphere. Guests didn’t have to own a dog to join in the fun, with plenty of events and delicious refreshments for all to enjoy.

Our competitions proved very popular and we were wowed by the contestants in the doggie fancy dress competition where Molly, a rather lovely Mongrel stole the show, winning first prize with her Cavalier costume. Pip the dog secured his place as runner-up with his wonderful impersonation of a bumblebee with his owner Doreen Bush who dressed up as a flower. There were also tasty treats galore at the dogs’ tea party where our canine companions with a sweet tooth indulged themselves with some doggie cake.

Our younger supporters were captivated by our kids’ theatre and our grown-up guests enjoyed a fabulous display by Battersea’s own Tippy Toes the dog and her handler Jackie who did heelwork to music. Kate and Gin, eat your heart out!

Fiona Healey-Hutchinson, Director of Fundraising for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home said:

“We had a truly wonderful day and it was lovely to welcome back so many familiar furry faces and hear how well they are doing in their new homes. Everyone had a fantastic time and the sponsored walk proved a real success. We can’t wait until next year!”
