‘Most Important Animal Welfare Legislation in a Century’

The RSPCA along with the animal welfare community at large are preparing to celebrate the passing into law of the Animal Welfare Act today (Nov 8, 2006) to help combat pet abuse and neglect – which startling new figures reveal is still on the rise. 

Hailed by the charity as the single most important piece of legislation to protect animals for almost a century, the new law will mean that owners and keepers will – for the first time – have a legal responsibility to care for their animals through the introduction of a new welfare offence.
