A collie named Archie is lucky to be alive after impaling himself on a 2ft branch.

Archie was playing fetch with owner Anna Harding, 27, when the accident happened, the dog ran into the stick which jammed down his throat.
It lodged all the way into the dog’s stomach and snapped. The stricken dog was taken to the vet who treated him for a pierced gullet, trapped nerve and damaged neck muscles.
Although he was at risk of paralysis or even death, Archie successfully came through the three hour operation.
Archie’s owners are relieved to have their dog back and the £4,000 vet bill is to be picked up by insurers.
Owner, Anna: “He’s usually very good at fetch but I don’t think he was looking where he was going. We’ll have to get him a nice tennis ball to chase.”
Sticks are responsible for a number of injuries to dogs and safer objects should be used when playing fetch.
