I think this is a very good idea. Not only to raise desperately needed funds for the hospital but also to help pets and their owners.
As long as everything is cleaned up afterwards, i cannot see this as being a problem.
After all, how often do we hear that dog or cat owners have beome ill because of their pets! I have never heard of anything, apart from Asthma but it is not the animal that causes this.
i have been a dog owner for many years and so have millions of other people, my dogs live in the house with me, sleep with me and we all eat in the same kitchen, but i am fit and healthy and have normal blood pressure!!
i hope this does take off, a lot of people will benefit from this: sick people in the hospital, the anilmals who are ill and of course the owners who love their pets and want the best!!

About time! Cancer in dogs will be greatly helped and most serious camine illness is not a problem for humans. A dog that has reached this level of medical assistance will have had more tests to determine their health than humans in the same situation. Looking forward to seeing this in US and Canadian hospitals.
