]]> By: Caroline Hughes http://www.dogmagazine.net/archives/724/kennel-club-attacked-by-electric-collar-manufacturers/#comment-19373 Caroline Hughes Fri, 29 Aug 2008 16:35:55 +0000 http://www.dogmagazine.net/?p=724#comment-19373 I use the electric collars.I bought one for my 18 month Tibetan Mastiff who was attacking the back gate when walkers went by.If I called he would ignore me;if I went to get him he would threaten me.I tried the collar success!I used it once (warning beep followed by a light shock)He came back to me away from the gate.The next day I only used the sound.I now do not have a behavioural problem.I then started to let him off the leed on walks.He often went deaf on me & I had to go and retrieve him.The problem is solved!If he does not come when called I only use the bleep!My other two Tibetan Mastiffs wear the collars & only use the bleep.All my dogs have obtained their Bronze Good Citizen award.Without the collar I would not feel confident at letting them of the leed when safe to do so.The Tibetan Mastiff is not food orientated so you can not bribe them to come back.I have been involved with dog training for over 30 years & at one time run my own club.This aid can be a god send if you have very nasty problems.
