DOG WARDENS TO HOLD INTERNATIONAL DOG CONTROL SEMINAR

The National Dog Warden Association is hosting a two day international seminar in Altringham Cheshire on 13th and 14th October 2008. NDWA listened to its members regarding training needs and has put together a well balanced seminar that will look at aggressive dogs as well as dangerous humans and issues that are pertinent to dog control in the UK today.

Amongst the plethora of speakers will be the Mark Kumpf, President of the National Animal Control Association from the United States of America and colleague who will be talking about Rabies and Animal Hoarding.

Steve Elvidge of the Western Australia Rangers Association will be talking about the role of a Ranger.

Home grown speakers will be discussing matters close to the hearts of all involved in dog control in the UK at the moment, dangerous dogs, and councils being responsible for dealing with stray dogs without police partnership working since 6th April 2008.

A speaker form DEFRA will be updating delegates on the situation since the relinquishment of police responsibility for dealing with stray dogs in accordance with section 68 of the Clean Neighbourhoods & Environment Act 2005.

K9 Magazine’s editor-in-chief and professional dog trainer Ryan O’Meara will be talking about recognising and dealing with aggression in dogs as well as ex Met Police Dog Handler Peter Tallack who will be explaining about how to deal with both ends of the lead!

The seminar is open to everyone who works with dogs, whether they are from local authorities, police forces, animal rescue organisations and the general public.

Further details on the seminar can be found at www.ndwa.co.uk click on AGM’s and seminars.

The cost per day is £150 for members and £165 per day for non members.

If both days are booked, there is a discount of £20 off the price.

As it is the 25th anniversary of NDWA, the NDWA Awards 2008 will take place during the evening of the first day and will be presented by Ryan O’Meara
