Dog Survives Despite Swallowing Two-Foot Long Stick!

Submitted by Freelance Writers on August 6, 2008 – 7:40 amNo Comment

A dog that astonishingly swallowed a two-foot long stick has survived an operation to remove the offending object.

The dog, an 11-year old Great Dane named Hector, swallowed the stick whilst playing with his owner at their Hertfordshire home.

He was taken to the vets by his owners after displaying signs of distress. Vets were astonished to see how large the stick was when they X-rayed the calamitous canine.

Owner Gerrard Panting:

“It all started on Friday night. He came in from the garden and he was just not himself, he was drooling and we thought that he had eaten something. The next day he was exactly the same.

“When we took him to the vet we were shocked.”

Mrs Panting:

“It was so long that they couldn’t get the full stick on the x-ray and he had to be transferred after anaesthetic to the Royal Veterinary College.”

“Because he had had not actually damaged himself too much, he probably had gulped it down rather than running around and it jammed down as he hit something,” Mr Panting said.

“Talking to the vets afterwards, they said there are a lot of sticks around that are much, much shorter that actually kill dogs if they perforate the gullet or the stomach but we were very lucky.”
