Witnessed a pit bull attack an old man and his dog last week in a busy street in London, after running away from its “owners”; two teenage kids.

These dogs, if not treated properly by experienced owners, have a tendency towards violence, and this tendency combined with their physical attributes makes them a potentially deadly weapon.

If you want any dog, you should be responsible. I would suggest that pitbull-type dogs should require strict licencing and control.

I got attacked at 15 years old by a yorkshire terrier. It bit my breast. I had pit bulls growing up. My dogs never hurt me period. So the misconceptions of pit bulls are mean are a bunch of bs. I had my dogs for years. Never hurt me.

Why is it when a small dog bites someone they are not put down? This is verry shocking to me. The only dog that has ever attacked me was a small dog that was mean to everyone even its owners children. It died of old age WTF. There is a double standard for dogs. I was bit by this small dog when i was 6, I am 24 now and i still have a scar. If I was one or smaller the dog could have easily seriously injured me. I hve never been attacked by a large breed dog.

I think it is like when someone crashes there car you may not even hear about it or it is on local news, but when a plane or train crashes it makes national or world news.

All dogs that have bitten people should be put down and the owners fined with medical bills and court costs and be sued for pain and suffering. No more double standards.

I think people with more dangeriouse dogs should be registered and evaluated before given custody of the dog. These would be breeds such as Rotties, Mastifs, Sheoperds, Chows, Pitts, and other large to medium breed dogs with the ability to mortaly wound a person with one bite. Expecially dogs that are know to be bred for fighting. Owners who are caught fighting dogs should be heavily fined and sentenced to a lifetime of community service and 5 to 10 year prison sentnce.

i got stopped yesterday morning about to walk my dog up the hills by a police car,asking what type of dog mine was-i told him it was staffy x(think its boxer or mastiff) he then told me it wasnt it was infact a pitbull or pitbull type he checked the dog over pointing out characteristics that he claimed why my dog was a pitbull,he also was taking pictures on what i think was a mobile phone, he was in plain clothes and had his police dogs in the car(think he’d just walked them) that was why he couldnt take the dog there and then,he also said i could submit the dog and it be destroyed-OVER MY DEAD BLOODY BODY! or go to court which then i could be prosecuted or win the right to keep him aslong as he was neuterd,tatooed,microchipped and muzzled at all times outside the house at a cost of around £800 inc court fees…i cant stop thinking about the incident and keep thinking why did he not radio for another dog unit to come and pick him up??? any information about people who have won an appeal to keep their pitbull and what to do to keep him would be greatfull.thanks

To Damien, Any dog out on out streets have the potential to bite, but then again any human on our streets has the potential to murder, are they taken off the streets??? A murderer or sick peodophile will get locked up for a few years then let out again only to repeat the same offence!! I suppose you think thats ok! i Agree that if a dog shows very agressive behaviour it should be worked with or muzzled it is up to the owner. Why should animals get put down for biting a human left to live in one of the uks luxury prisons where my taxes and a hell of a lot of other peoples taxes pay to keep the sick b*stards!! The people that think dog fighting makes them look hard or think its amusing have done this to give dogs a bad name dont blame the dog!! I say bring back hanging to murderers and pedophiles . I just remember why is it mostly kids that dogs bite alot of the time because kids are annoying them , if someone kept poking you continuoulsy you wld get annoyed it wld push you so far and you wld finally snap . Yes dogs bite adults but look at the statistics!!! Theres more murderers and peodophiles on our streets than dangerous dogs .THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you look at the statistics on how many people are bitten each year in the UK and were to be able to find out what the breeds doing most of the biting were, I should imagine the number of so called dangerous dog breeds would be very low where as Yorkies, collies, pomeranians to name a few, would be more likely candidates as I’ve been bitten by a few of these, trying to prize them off other dogs which have done nothing to provoke being attacked, and the owners of these dogs don’t seem to think that there is anything wrong with their dogs or that they are a bad owner, yet if pitbull type dogs were to retaliate, people would say dangerous dogs and think you are a thug for owning these dogs.That’s what really annoys me and as having owned these types of dogs for many years I have never found a more trusting, loyal and loving family pet. These are not dangerous dogs if brought up in the correct enviroment, with plenty of exercise & socialisation as with any other animals.

Read all the comments and totally agree with all the positive ones. A dog is what u make it. I had a pitbull (miss her dearly), my sons father has three and my friend has just got a pitbull pup and they are all loving animals. Unfortunatley they have a bad rep due to negative media due to them bein an easy target. If every breed was published when an attack took place it would be a diff story. I have a staffie (??? ‘pit bull type’) and he his the most loving dog u could meet, even my family had a negative view on him when i brought him home which was due to media influence. He is now spoilt to death by all those people!! The breed should not be banned, just the young stupid people who own them. I have had a pitbull an will def will be havin another in the future!!
