Breaking: Government Publishes Results of Dangerous Dogs Consultation
Animal Welfare Minister Lord Henley has today published the summary of the 4,250 responses to the dangerous dogs consultation, launched by previous Home Secretary Alan Johnson.
Lord Henley said:
“The issue of dangerous dogs is not just a problem of dangerous breeds but also one of bad owners. They need to be held to account and stopped from ruining people’s lives."
(ed: It appears Lord Henley is making an assumption that there IS such a thing as 'dangerous breeds', his quote above tends to suggest he 'shares the blame' between dangerous breeds and dangerous owners.)
“Dangerous dogs are a major issue affecting many people. This is why I am working closely with Ministerial colleagues in the Home Office on the anti-social behaviour dimension to this issue. We are also working with groups such as the RSPCA to look at other issues raised in the consultation, such as breed-specific bans, micro-chipping and attacks on private property.”
Lord Henley said that he would announce the Government’s approach to dangerous dogs early in the New Year.
Responses to many of the forty proposals in the dangerous dogs consultation were strongly divided, with primary concerns being whether the bans on specific dog breeds were the best approach to reduce dog attacks, and how to deal promptly and effectively with those that allow their dogs to be a nuisance to others.

Hi
Well, i personally feel that this serious topic will be a little while longer before any thing is changed by way of the legislation in question.
I can only comment from a personal view point, but, must agree that many not all, of the breeds that have been tagged as “dangerous”, are indeed owned by folk who haven’t socialised the animal or indeed adequately trained them, from that early age, hence some issues tend to arise. It s contraversial this topic, and indeed can’t be any longer deemed to be just breed specific, especially after not too long ago the well publicised case of a child being attacked by a border collie!
Will be very interesting to see what eventually happens, as i feel this issue will go on and on. I have been approached to assist training more Pit Bull’s lately, than ever before it’s crazy (which i won’t train) along with Staffie’s (which i help train), the enquiries for these has risen over 100% since the BBC panarama program was aired!
Well at least the majority can see through the ‘dangerous’ breed hype. Lets hope the goverment lissen and repeal BSL and quick.
