Labrador Puppy Kills Baby Boy

Police are investigating the tragic death of a 2-month-old boy who was believed to have been killed by a young Labrador dog in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The youngster was left unattended in a swing when the incident occurred. He died at the scene.

The boy, who has not been named, was at home with his mother and grandmother but they were not believed to be present in the room when the attack happened.

However, police are unsure which of the dogs was responsible for the child’s death.

D’Ann Berson, operations manager for the Tulsa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said an attack on a young child by a Lab would be an “unusual incident.”

“Labs as a rule are good family dogs,” she said. “They’re not bred to be attack dogs.”

Some dogs become aggressive around food or toys, Berson said. But an attack would be more common with a toddler, rather than an infant sitting in a swing, she said.

Both dogs were taken to local animal shelter but only the Labrador was euthanised, at the request of the Tulsa Police.

Police will forward the report to the district attorney to decide whether criminal charges should be pressed.

The parents should be the ones euthanised. I would say that there is a 99% chance that the dog was not being aggressive, not because of the breed but because it was a puppy and had no reason to attack a kid in a swing.

I am surprised people are even mentioning the breed of the dog. Usually they only mention the breed if it’s a rottweiler or pitbull, even if it wasn’t really either of those breeds but they are just the ones who get the headlines.

I like how no one is talking about banning labs now; if it were a pit this would be a completely different story about how a parent could leave a vicious killer alone with a dog. Fact is you are just as likely to get bitten by a lab or a retriever as you are a pitbull you just don’t hear about it when a poodle bites someone.

Well, you’re going to hear about a biting miniature poodle from me. My beloved little dog, who is a rescue was given away because the previous owner said, “He bites!” I took this little guy in and I’ll tell you, he is the sweetest little dog I’ve ever seen, but one night I walked into the bedroom and he was laying on the bed and he rolled over on his back so I could rub his tummy. While giving him love and talking to him, I bent down over him to kiss him and that’s when he grabbed ahold of my right eye (mostly on eyebrow) and he wouldn’t let go. I think I must have scared him, or he thought I wanted one of his treats that was nearby, but I ended up having 18 stitches and I’m lucky my 12 lb little boy didn’t take out my whole eye! I love little Blazer very much and I don’t blame him for the bite. After he did it, the look on his face was just so pathetic. You could tell he felt terrible for what he did. I assured him everything was OK and ran off to the hospital. I’d like to know what those people who gave him away did to him. They had young kids and the Mom just hated him. Dogs are sensitive and they know when they’re not liked. I’m just glad he’s with me now (5 years). He’s now 9 years old and with the exception of that one incident, he is the most darling, sweet little dog I’ve had the pleasure of owning.

My bet is on the lab as well, but not as the killer dog it is being made out to be.I have been breeding labradors for 13 years now, and can tell you that with a little provoction, and bad parenting ANY dog can be a killer. However in this instance, knowing the little bit of details that are entered, I would have to say that it was purely accidental. Depending on the age of the pup, 3, 4 and even 5 month old pups are chew happy. Not because they are trying to be bad, but just as a infant teeths, so do dogs. All dogs. I know that we tell our new owners all the time to never ever EVER let your pup chew on your fingers. What is cute from Fido at 8 weeks of age, can easily break the skin or worse at 12 weeks of age. Human flesh is soft, and makes for a GREAT teething toy. Start off right, and a real firm ” NO” when the pup tries to chew on you. If you instill the unacceptable when they are young, you have a much better chance of keeping your backyard furniture in tack for another season, as well as your calves in one piece.
