Cardiff Council Successfully Prosecutes Owner of Straying Dogs

Cardiff Council has successfully prosecuted a dog owner for offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

Mr Rodney Davies of The Hawthorns, Pentwyn was found guilty at Cardiff Magistrates Court on July 17, 2008.

The case was brought following an investigation by a Cardiff Council dog warden into two incidents one in October 2007 and one in January 2008 when two American Bulldogs owned by Mr Davies attacked local residents whilst walking their dogs. The American Bulldogs responsible for the attack were straying when the incidents happened.

Mr Davies is required to undertake 120 hours unpaid work in the community and pay costs of £360.

Mr Davies is also subject to a control order relating to the dogs. He is held as the sole person responsible for the dogs and they must be walked on a lead at all times when in a public place.

A Cardiff Council dog warden has also been instrumental in securing a recent prosecution for the RSPCA under animal welfare offences. An English Bull Terrier cross breed had been brought into a dogs home with severe weight loss and sores as a result of neglect.

The dog warden’s investigation led to a Caerau resident being disqualified from keeping or participating in keeping dogs for two years. The dog owner was also subject to a two month Community Order and ordered to pay £500 costs.
