We (K9 Magazine) reported on this back in April. One comment (on this very blog) even suggested it might be a late April fools joke. Well it’s now September and we’re not ones to take a joke to such extreme lengths (actually, that’s a downright lie. We are and we would. But we’re not)

Meet Lucky & Flo…the world’s first DVD sniffing dogs. They are to undergo intensive training with the aim being they will be able to uncover large bounties of illegal DVDs included pirated and bootleg versions.

The dogs have enjoyed some early success.

They are trained to alert police to any CD or DVD they smell in packages and bags. Customs officers can then examine the contents and check its validity. Ingenious. Of course, it would be a bit much asking the dogs to determine if the actual disc was a copy but nevertheless, they’ll be able to lend a paw in the fight against piracy (maybe even piracy in the Caribbean, who knows? Watch out Mr Depp)

British Customs officials are confident the dogs will signal when there are large collections of discs present, which would more likely include the naughty ones (by naughty we mean pirated, not, well you know….naughty naughty).

Has anyone ever heard of dogs being used to help find other lost housepets? My cat has been missing for a few days and I keep reading about this on lots of “missing cat” web sites. Do you know who to contact or anything about it. Any useful info. will be appreciated. Thanks
