When a marriage breaks down, often there is a protracted battle for custody of the children. But in the case of US reality TV (ex) couple, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, it is the pair's dogs who are at the centre of a tug of love.
The recently estranged pair yesterday took part in a somewhat bizarre hand over ceremony of their four dogs in Costa Rica.
Mr Pratt arrived at a villa to perform the elaborate 'dog swap' (in full glare of the media), delivering two to his ex and riding away with two on a golf buggy.
The canine exchange apparently sits at the centre of the couple's divorce settlement.
Dogs and divorce has become a more pressing issue in recent years.
Many couples – obviously – adore their pets, even if they no longer have the time of day for their former partners.

Dogs and Divorce – how a relationship breakdown can effect pets.
The clue is in the first paragraph: ” … US reality TV (ex) couple … ” This charade was SO obviously just a publicity stunt to keep the names of these two air-heads in the media!
Shame on you Ryan O’Meara for giving the stunt coverage in K9 magazine!
By the way … looking at the adverts for past K9 mags that are featured along the top of the page: one could mistake the images for front covers of ‘lads mags’ … why are air-brushed ‘glamour models’ and Z-list surgically enhanced ‘celebrities’ being hired to promote dog welfare (says rather a lot about your ‘taste’, eh Ray?! (LOL!)
Shame on me for publishing it or shame on you for (clearly) reading it?
K9 Magazine is not for everyone. There are many other dog publications that may better serve the taste of those who are easily offended by looking attractive people who also happen to love dogs. Animal welfare is neither here nor there when it comes to picking people to appear on the cover.
