Married couple, David and Susan Venn were shot in their car as they parked up outside their house following what was said to be a long-running dispute with a neighbour over one of their dogs.

The Daily Mail reports that a neighbour smashed the windscreen and aimed fire. He wounded David Venn, 62 in the hand and Susan Venn, 60 in the stomach. Mr Venn was able to over-power his attacker and managed to disarm him. They were both rushed to hospital in King’s Lynn and Mr Venn was transferred to Norwich hospital for expert treatment. Both are in stable condition.

It has been reported that the shooting was the result of a bitter dispute over the Venn’s pet Rottweiler and accusations that the dog was vicious. A neighbour told the newspaper:

‘He said the dog was vicious and that he was going to try a “range of tactics” to force them to get rid of the dog. He said he was going to move out and let the house for free to people on benefits… to try and force them out.’

The neighbour’s wife told the newspaper that the Venn’s owned two dogs. They already had one and had recently got the Rottweiler from a local rescue charity.

She told the newspaper that the dog ‘always seemed to be good-tempered’. The woman added: ‘Apparently the gunman was waiting for them in their driveway and then smashed the window before shooting them.’

Armed officers closed off the area and arrested a 57-year-old man close to the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.
