Betfair sponsors Retired Greyhound Trust of the Year at Great Greyhound Gathering 2008

It is with great excitement that the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT), the only UK charity dedicated to rehoming ex-racers once their days on the track are over, can announce that Betfair will be sponsoring the RGT dog of the year award at its charity fundraising event, the Great Greyhound Gathering, in September this year.

The second annual Great Greyhound Gathering will take place at Nottingham Racecourse on 27 September 2008 and promises to be even bigger and better than last year. The event is expected to attract upward of 2000 people including 500 retired greyhounds and their owners, along with other dog lovers and their families for what promises to be a fantastic family day out.

Speaking about the sponsorship, Tony Calvin of Betfair said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the RGT dog of the year award for the second year running. The Retired Greyhound Trust carries out invaluable work and is crucial to the sustainability of the industry. Betfair is pleased to be able to support their efforts to re-home this wonderful breed. Last year’s award was scooped by the beautiful Sunny, owned by Karen Woods. It’ll be exciting to see who this year’s award goes to!”

Ivor Stocker, director of the RGT, said: “The financial support offered by Betfair is greatly appreciated. Essential items including, neutering, parasite control and dentals, ensuring that the dogs are happy and healthy before they begin their new lives in a domestic environment, make up a large amount of the cost to run one of our branches.

So if you and your family are looking for a fun-filled day out packed with entertainment for everyone to enjoy, come along to the Great Greyhound Gathering at Nottingham Racecourse on Saturday 27 September.

In the meantime, if you would like more information about the RGT and the work it does or if you would like to find out about adopting a greyhound, please contact the charity on 0870 444 0673 or log onto www.retiredgreyhounds.co.uk
