A rise in the popularity of pet insurance and an increase in the skill level of vets has lead to the profession becoming the most profitable small business in Britain according to a new report.
The study revealed that vets earn an average of 37% return on capital from Britain’s increasingly affluent pet owning community.
The increased revenues are largely explained by vets being competent in new procedures such as high level heart surgery, cancer treatment and a growth in return on periodical treatments such as worming and flea control.
Vets are better able to provide more advanced – and expensive – procedures largely due to the popularity of pet insurance, which enables pet owners to get treatment for their pet paid on their behalf.
