This article is from the K9 Magazine archives, subscribe to our newsletter & get our best dog news, tips and articles ---->Did you know that June is National Microchipping Month? Penguins at the London Zoo got chipped in front of the public during their usual feeding session on the 1st, as a gesture to launch and promote the event. If you have a dog or cat (or indeed, a penguin), pop into the vets and get them microchipped this month, if you haven’t already.
Vet surgeries across the UK are offering reduced fees on their microchipping services; it only takes a minute, is relatively painless, and permanently identifies your pet for life. The small chip the size of a large grain of rice sits under the skin between his shoulder blades, and once in the pet does not notice that it is there. Your pet’s name and your personal details, including address and telephone number, are stored in a national database, and will be brought up if the chip is scanned. This makes it much more likely that your pet will find his way back to you if he gets lost.
(Incidentally, while your animal is on the table, get them checked over and pick up some medicine to combat fleas and ticks; May was National Flea Awareness Month.)
