A man who stole a Pomeranian puppy said to be worth about £750 is facing a possible five year prison term.

Emanuel Lopez was one of three charged with stealing the dog after it emerged he stuffed the puppy under his sweat shirt before trying to make a get away from a pet shop in Naperville, USA. The pet shop believes the theft was pre-planned from the inside.

Two women who worked at the pet store were also charged with theft after it was alleged they hired Lopez to carry out the dog theft. Authorities said Lopez had an agreement to sell the dog to the two women for $60 once he had stolen it.

The 8-week-old puppy was returned to the store unharmed.
