A row has broken out at one of the UK’s toughest high-security jails over a complaint that a prison officer called his sniffer dog Allah.

The prison officer in question insists he named his dog Ali, not Allah, but has been moved to another jail after the complaint from a Muslim inmate at Belmarsh prison, south-east London.

Belmarsh contains the highest number of Muslim inmates of any UK prison.

A source at the jail told the Sun newspaper: “Muslims don’t like dogs and it would have been an insult to their religion if the dog had been called Allah, which is sacred to them. It is disgraceful the way the management kow-towed to them despite Chris’s denial.”

A Prison Service source is quoted: “There is no suggestion that he did call the dog Allah but, on balance, it was thought better to transfer him.”

  • Real Dog Handler says:

The ‘inmates’ in Belmarsh Prison are there for the very fact that they have been convicted of committing an imprisonable offence.

To transfer a detection dog as a result of a complaint from a person who if they have been imprisoned for terrorist offences against the UK is a total disgtace.

Several years ago before the rise of Al Qaeda I was part of a group of military dog handlers who visited Belmarsh Prison. The verbal abuse towards us from some ‘British’ ’salt of the earth’ type inmates was lovely!

In the dog handler section there were pictures of various inmates and they had information next to them such as only go to this cell with two or even three dogs because they were so violent. Dogs play an important role in maintaining discipline and safety in the prison system, so what if somebody does not like them. I do not particulary like people who want to kill me just because I am not of their religion or want to follow their way of life.

There was a mosque created by financial support from Saudi Arabia, what was hypocritical is that in Saudi Arabia churches are banned, do they have a church type area in Saudi prisons, bet they do not!

Too much kow-towing at the expense of operational efficiency is out of order, why should the dog handler be moved, why not send the prisoner to Dartmoor or Barlinnie prison instead?

What can the shortened name Ali mean, it could represent:

    Alison
    Alistair
    Alexander
    Alexandra

Come on Government, stop pandering to every whim of people who want to destroy our society, bring the dog and its handler back to Belmarsh and send the prisoner somewhere else instead.

These people are there because they want to overthrow our way of life, the safety of the British people and prison officers is more important than somebody’s dislike of an animal.

Even when incarcerated in prison this person is still fighting the system and apparently winning by getting a dog handler redeployed.
