Two young pups born into the warzone of Afghan have touched the hearts of some private contractors in Afghan. My partner Tony Groves is one of two men wanting to offer these pups a better life in the UK.
Kandy (now 8months) and Junior (now 4months) were both found on the main highway going to the mens’ camp when there were each only a matter of weeks old. Both girls when found were in a desperate state, malnutritied and weak. When given food, water and medication the pups both quickly turned themselves around and have become strong and healthy. Tony and fellow contractor Martin Kelleher have grow particularly found of the dogs and want to bring them back to the UK to their “forever homes”.
The bond that grows between the men and their dogs when working in such hostile and unpredictable environments is immense. Far away from their families the men find love, comfort and companionship from these amazing creatures. Tony is due to leave Afghan in the next few weeks, his thoughts on leaving Junior behind “I can’t bear the thought of leaving her behind, she is the most loving and tender creature I have ever come across. She has the saddest face I have ever seen and I am desperate to bring her home with me and give her a safe and secure life. There seems to be very little respect for animals in this country and if I can save one from the hardship of a life in this war torn place then that can only be a good thing.”
To do this a total of 5,000 pounds needs to be raised. This covers travel, quarantine, vet bills, vaccinations etc. The rescues are being arranged by Nowzad Dog charity and B.A.R. (Baghdad Animal Rescue) headed up by Louise Hastie and Pen Farthing. A campaign has been launched on Facebook (Help bring Kandy and Junior home from Afghanistan) We have run one prize draw to raise funds for Kandy and are now running another one for Junior (Raising funds For Junior) Everyone who donates on the FB event page will be entered into a free prize draw to win a Tiffany and Co cuff bangle!!!
Or people can donate on the girls just giving page: http://www.justgiving.com/kandy-and-junior (these are not included in the draw)

Hi guys,

We are desperatly trying to get the funds together to move the pups to the safety of the shelter at the moment. Will keep you updated as we make progress
Thank you again from me and the pups!!!
Have you worked with Tigger House and Afghan Stray Animal League at all? They shelter dogs at Tigger House, provide veterinary care and ultimately help them get to their forever homes.
They also have at least 12 highly adoptable young dogs who are in desperate need to loving homes. For more information go to http://www.afghanstrayanimals.org/
