The uncle of John Paul Massey aged 4, who was mauled to death by a Pitbull Terrier in Liverpool has been charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
The horrific incident happened in 2009 when the toddler was in the care of his Grandmother. The owner of the dog happened to be John Paul’s Uncle and he has been charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous dog. He also faces one count of breeding a dangerous dog and one count of giving a dangerous dog as a gift.
Mr Christian Foulkes, 21, will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates’ Court on 27 April.
The toddler was savaged to death by the dog who was described by locals as an “American pit-bull” type. The dog also attacked the 63-year-old Grandmother’s legs as she tried to protect the boy. The dog was shot on the spot by police who were called to the scene.

First I will tell you I am a citizen of the US and not familiar with all your dog laws. However I am a mother of three grown children. There were always dogs one or two dogs in the house. I had a young male Doberman, he was about a year old when this event happened. He had always been good around the children until one evening, and I have no idea why this happened, he decided to attack my eight year old son. Thankfully my husband and I were in the imediate area. My husband ran to get the dog away from the child. The dog was biting at him so he went in with his feet, in my opinion the only smart way to break up a dog fight or attack. He got his foot on the dogs neck and was choking him from the pressure of his foot and the floor. He looked at me and asked if he shold kill him. I was in shock and didn’t answer. Finally he released the dog. After that event I watched that dog like a hawk.I took on obedience training him myself.Believe me when I spoke he listened.
I had serious back surgery and was confined to total bed rest. Several years later my children were allowed to stay up until nine thity. A man broke into my house and grabbed my youngest daughter. She was frantic.I was weak and couldn’t have fought the man off.I was scared but kept my senses enough to get the Dobe, who slept under my son’s bed.I called him slipped his working collar on him and took him to the top of the stairs and told him to KILL, and I meant it. The man was out the door with my little girl.He made a fatal mistake. He didn’t close the door.My Dobe, a big dog, was down the stairs and out the door. He was on the ultimate mission, save the child and take down the kidnapper. The man dropped the child and started running, the Dobe was close behind him. The dog didn’t return for two hours. When he did return he was covered with blood.I called the state police and told them what happened.
They were at my house in ten minutes.I didn’t clean the dog up.I told the officer what had happened. Then asked if they were going to take my dog.He informed me the dog deserved a medal.I never heard if they found the man dead or alive. The dog never attacked the children after the choking incident. As a matter of fact he would not allow a stranger near them.
What happened to the four year old child is terrible.I wish that dog had the near death experience mine did.Possibly the child would be alive today. My heart goes out to the parents of the child and also to the child. All my sympathy, Delta
