K9 Magazine Competition: Latest Hollywood Blockbuster Hachi: A Dog’s Tale Starring Richard Gere

Hachi: A Dog’s Tale is the latest Hollywood blockbuster hitting our screens featuring A-List actor Richard Gere. The story is based upon a real life Akita dog who demonstrates utter devotion and loyalty to his owner.

Richard Gere admitted he was apprehensive about working with Akita dogs in the film and told The Mail On Sunday: “Akitas are very discerning. I was nervous about meeting them. You can’t buy them with treats – they have to trust you.”

He insisted he wanted normal dogs to do the tricks and stunts rather than a trained dog. This would allow the film makers to capture the natural charm of the dogs.

Gere added: “We didn’t want to make a Disney movie. We wanted to spend a long time filming their natural actions. We wanted to create situations which explore what a dog feels.”
