A drunken, 75 year old pensioner shot his neighbours beloved rescue dog with an air rifle. Michael Reed, 75, ran out and blasted Sandy, a 9 year old Collie cross German Shepherd point-blank in the head.

Kate and Steve Lloyd rushed her to the vets, but Sandy died of brain damage. The mum of two who got Sandy as a pup, lives in Rugeley Staffordshire.

She said: “He’s an evil and wicked man. Poor Sandy had no way of defending herself. She’d probably have been wagging her tail at her killer expecting a treat.”

It is reported that Mr Reed has drunk 2 bottles of red wine before he made the attack. He claimed he fired from a bedroom window, however footprints in snow show he shot at close range.

Mr Reed admitted causing unnecessary suffering to an animal at Cannock JPs. He was fined £500 and told to pay £500 compensation.

Since the incident a driver has churned up his lawn and he has put his house up for sale. The gun has also been confiscated.

This is why we need an animal abuse registry like there is for peadophiles and child abusers…. I would want to know if Mr Reed was moving to my neighborhood! These people also need to be on a DNA database (DO NOT ADOPT) – anyone that has a record of animal abuse should NEVER be allowed to own a pet.
