Well Done Cuthbert Jackson and K9 Magazine for pointing out the very limited involvement that charities actually have in regard to stray dogs before the dogs have been held by local councils for the statutory amount of time. If the many TV programmes that these charities push out are to believed, they seem to deal with stray and abandoned dogs when in fact it is a council function!

The duplicitious machinations of some of these charities and others is mind boggling! They push for things that they do not deal with and then are the first to start criticising when things go wrong!

The forthcoming RSPCA Dangerous Dog conference is a prime example of a charity interfering in something it does not have any statutory duty to deal with.

Unbelievable, why do the public revere them so much when their possible good intentions have been walked all over by the government and the police to reach this point.

Re the behind the scenes negotiations of the Local Government Association and the police to reach the much lower sum than the police themselves quoted several years ago, were there any dog wardens invovled with the Local Government Association? To me it sounds like they are yet another self policing, self congratulatory group that jumps when the government tells it to?

I wish these charities would talk to the people on the ground who have to deal with stray dogs, namely councils and their dog wardens to get a true picture of how to deal with the situation.

Thank K9 Magazine and Cuthbert Jackson for this article. It really shows that if you have the money and the political contacts you can get whatever you want! Thanks for pointing out that for all their 'concern', these charities have no statutory powers regarding stray dogs. The next time I see one of these charities TV programmes. going on about how they have rescued an abandoned dog found in the woods or wherever, I will think a
