Pet owners Furious at Police’s lack of action: The owner of Sam one of the dogs found dumped in a field outside of Lower Hartsay has spoken out at her disgust at learning from Derbyshire police that they do not intend to take any action for fraud against the owner of Peak Pet Cremations.
Angela Moore is distraught at hearing from Derbyshire police that the Crown Prosecution Service does not intend to take any action despite the mountain of evidence against Peak Pet Cremations. Angela says “When the police phoned to tell me the news I was stunned. I feel like the CPS have not only let us down but have failed all pet owners.
Mounting Evidence
“I was told that the police had found other pet’s bodies on the farm where cremations were meant to have taken place and there was a possibility that pets and clinical waste had been burnt on open ground as the remnants of several bonfires containing skeletons were also discovered. I want to know how many more people have got ashes from Peak Pet Cremations that might not be of their pet? This makes me even angrier at Ambivet for not checking what Peak Pet Cremations were doing and they are just as responsible for the trauma we are going through.”
The excuse given by Peak Pet Cremations is that the mix up was caused by someone breaking in to the container the bodies were stored in whilst the owner was on holiday. The owner’s horse then apparently ate the identification labels off of the body bags the pets were in! The bodies were then stolen by thieves along with scrap that was also stored in the shed and were eventually found by a member of the public dumped in a ditch in a nearby field.
Linda Moore, owner of Bournville, that had already received ashes from Peak Pet Cremations prior to her dog being found dumped in the field says:
“It feels like the Crown Prosecution Service don’t think what has happened to our pets is important enough to bother with. I think other pet owners should go to Trading Standards if they have had ashes back from Peak Pet Cremations in the past as they may find themselves in the same position as us. The excuse given by Peak Pet Cremations is ridiculous and I can’t believe that the Police can’t see through what she has claimed! I just hope that the Trading Standards and the Environment Agency don’t let us down as well.”
Previously the owners of Sam and Bourneville had turned to Nottingham Pet Crematorium to ensure their pets were given a proper send off after the trauma of discovering their bodies had been callously dumped in a field after having entrusted them to their local vet Ambivet. Both owners had their faith restored by Nottingham Pet Crematorium, who made no charge for their services.
More Pet Owners now coming forward
Mr John Harbury-Carlisle who has run Nottingham Pet Crematorium for almost 20 years explains “When I heard that the criminal case had been dropped I was disgusted. Services like mine are there to support and comfort grieving pet owners and not to abuse their trust. Dropping the case sends the wrong message out to the places that are cutting corners to make a bigger profit and giving us all a bad name. I have been approached by another pet owner who was sent to Peak Pet Cremations by Ambivet last year. She is worried that the ashes in her caskets are not of her pets and having now seen them I have my doubts as to what she has got back. It raises the question as to the vets responsibility in checking out where they are sending pets to.
We have an open house policy here and can guarantee that pets get the peaceful send off they deserve. Having said that many local vets don’t offer our service and instead send pets to large disposal firms along with clinical waste – very much like the service Peak Pet Cremations was offering! I just hope vets will sit up and take more of an interest in the way they are selling cremations to pet owners as they have a duty of care to get it right.”
Susan Southall explains “After my friend mentioned the incident to me I became worried that I hadn’t received my pets ashes back so I decided to open their caskets. Not knowing what they should look like my friend suggested I contacted John at Nottingham Pet Crematorium as they had looked after my friend’s cat and are a specialist individual pet crematorium.”
Mrs Southall and her husband became increasingly anxious and upset at the thought that the two caskets didn’t contain the ashes of their pets and so approached Nottingham Pet Crematorium. Mrs Southall has now approached local Trading Standards officers with her complaint and will be writing to Ambivet, who first put her in contact with Peak Pet Cremations.
She says “it makes me sick to think that I haven’t got my pets ashes back. Both my husband and I have had almost continual headaches worrying over this and it has brought back all the emotions we had when we first lost them. I feel like the vet is as much to blame as Peak Pet Cremations and just wished they had used a genuine service like Nottingham Pet Crematorium instead. I just want to know whether I have got Tyson or Toby back or not and hope that they can get the ashes tested in some way so that I can put an end to my doubts.”
