Ryan O’Meara Leaves Position as Editor of K9 Magazine
Exclusive: 9 years after founding the publication, Ryan O’Meara is to step down as editor of K9 Magazine.
As part of a wide-sweeping editorial re-organisation, O’Meara’s successor will be announced in December. Meanwhile, Jennifer White has been promoted to Managing Editor and two new, full time editorial appointments have been made; Holly Page and Ian Smith join K9 Magazine as features editor and animal health correspondent respectively.Holly has 16 years experience as a writer and will oversee the management and commissioning of editorial contributions.
Ian is a qualified veterinary nurse based in Brisbane, Australia. He will be responsible for an increased out put of canine health and welfare editorial.
Jennifer White has been with K9 Magazine as assistant managing editor for the past 12-months.
As well as the editorial changes, K9 Media Ltd – publisher of K9 Magazine – has announced the signing of a licensing deal for a Canadian edition of the magazine, to be launched in 2010.
Ryan O’Meara will take up the role as group publisher and will oversee the launch of K9 Magazine’s Canadian edition.
Commenting on leaving the position, he said:
“I have enjoyed nearly every minute since I started the magazine. It’s been really, really hard work at times but I am relieved and delighted that our transition to digital has been all but completed with such a massive degree of success. We’ve picked up more subscribers / members in the past two months than we had in the previous six and our reach just seems to keep growing. I look forward to the challenge of repeating the dose in Canada and beyond in more of a business, rather than editorial role.
Whilst I will definitely miss being involved in the editorial decisions and the hands-on aspects of running a magazine about a subject for which I have so much passion, I am confident we have people in place who are actually much better equipped than me to take K9 Magazine on to bigger, better things.”
Earlier this year, Ryan published his first book “Newshounds” and has recently signed a deal to publish a second, to be released in August 2010 by Quarto Publishing.
