Man Strangles and Kills Own Dog in Public Park
A man appeared to strangle a dog in front of shocked onlookers in a Birmingham park.
He was walking the dog without a lead when it is believed to have attacked a young boy. The man, described as Asian, about 5ft 10in and in his mid 30’s then appeared to grab the dog and strangle it before dragging the dead body away.
The boy was treated at hospital after suffering small wounds to the head in the incident on 26 September.
West Midlands Police have issued CCTV footage of the man leaving the park and appealed for witnesses to the killing.
Earlier it had appeared the dog had approached a group of playing children before the youngster was injured. The dog then ran back to the owner who appeared to strangle it and put it into a bin bag before leaving the park shortly after 1915 according to police.
The boy who was injured was discharged from hospital on the same night.
The boy was treated at hospital but discharged the same night.
Sgt Alan Hands, from Nechells Green police station, described it as a “horrific” incident.
He said: “It was terrifying for the little boy who was attacked and bitten by this dog which was not properly controlled on a lead.
“When it returned to the owner he appeared to destroy the dog with no regard for those who witnessed his actions or the animal itself without checking to see if the child was hurt.
“He is clearly not a responsible pet owner in any regard.”
The owner was dressed in a cream-coloured hooded jumper and blue jeans.
