Dog Warden Conference Will Be Best Ever
The National Dog Warden Association’s 26th annual seminar and AGM taking place on 22nd and 23rd October 2009 at the Strathallan Hotel in Edgbaston, Birmingham looks set to have the makings of an excellent teaching and debating opportunity for delegates due to the wide and varied mix of interesting speakers.
Speakers include for the first time, the Kennel Club and the Dogs Trust, DDA Watch and LANTRA, along with regular contributors from, DEFRA, the RSPCA, Pete Tallack, Dog Advisor to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) who will give an update on the Guidance for Enforcers and Ryan O’Meara Editor in Chief of K9 Magazine, who will discuss better understanding of canine behaviour and body language.
Another notable first is the presence of Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Director of Policy Tim Everett who will be speaking about CIEH policy and animal welfare.
Phil Easteal from Basildon District Council, Surindar Dhesi, Health & Safety Team Leader at Birmingham City Council, Alison Hughes, Head of Food, Health & Safety Torfaen County Borough Council and finally Dave Griffiths, NDWA Senior Policy Advisor and East Hampshire District Council fresh back from representing NDWA at the Western Australian Ranger Association complete a top quality line up from many sectors of the animal world and local and central governments.
NDWA President Susan Bell says ‘a revamp of our organisational structure has resulted in possibly the best organised conference ever’ Praise must be placed at the feet of NDWA’s dedicated Conference & Event Coordinator for this turn around’ she added.
NDWA would like to continue to be the largest representative body for dog control staff in the UK and to this end it is soon to start working with LANTRA on recognized qualifications for dog control staff.
Attendance at the seminar is open to all members and non-members of the NDWA including Dog Wardens, Animal Welfare Officers, Environmental Health Officers, Pest Control Officers, colleagues working in animal rescue and anyone with an interest in animal control.
International guests from the NDWA’s sister organisation, the National Animal Control Association from the USA will speak about their perspective of animal control and a much anticipated presentation will be about animal rescue during and after the disaster that was Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
The NDWA Awards 2009 will take place during the evening of Thursday 22nd October 2009. The awards recognise the work of dog wardens, councils and others working in the animal control world.

I am really impressed with this years line up. I have to agree with the comments of Sue Bell, there has been a turn about in the organisation of the conference, and it is noticeable. Well done to all involved – I must agree it does appear to be the best ever, certainly the best that I can recall.
Looking foreard to this years event

Great line up! I do think that the reorganisation that NDWA has undergone is about time – its a marked improvement this year. What a great job the event coordinator has done.
Have my place booked – providing I can get my boss to pay
Really keen to see all the speakers – all fab, can’t pick just one as a highlight to look out for, although I am really keen to see what the environmental health speakers have to say. For far too long now the dog wardens have been the forgotten part of environmental health, its good to see that the CIEH will be there

Carol B, if you’d like to let me know via http://www.ndwa.co.uk which charitable exhibitors you would like there, I’ll take a look and see what I can do with the options. Always happy to look at options

Hi Carol B
The Dogs Trust, RSPCA and Cats Protection are speaking and there will be possibly as usual other delegates from Battersea Dogs Home and Mayhew Animal Home at the conference?
What other kind of animal welfare based charity organisations would you like to see there?
To me there will be more than enough charity people present who will be networking from the floor, the exhibitors are mostly specialist equipment or service providers who support dog control?
Well done NDWA on organising an excellent looking conference.

I have to agree this conference does look good on paper – lets see if it lives up to expectations in reality, I hope it does, as it will show that NDWA is a professional body that should be taken seriously by the other dog agencies out there.
It’s quite an adventerous line up, and I really do hope that this is the best ever conference.

I was thinking about the smaller charities and rescue centers. I think this years event looks set to be a great event.

What a great line up
So looking forward to this years conference.
How on earth did the NDWA manage to get the Kennel Club, Dogs Trust, RSPCA & the CIEH to come along to the conference? it is astounding that these agencies can all be found under one roof over 2 days. Well done to the dedicated conference and event coordinator in organising all this.
Well done to the NDWA for having a dedicated conference and event coordinator, it is clearly evident that there is someone taking the lead and arranging the event

Great range of speakers.
Sadly I won’t be able to be there, but so desperately want to hear the no doubt lively debates that are likely to ensue.
I’m impressed with the fact that this conference has the likes of the CIEH in attendance, especially when Dog wardens are often the forgotten function of environmental health. The KC talk should be interesting to hear what it is exactly that the KC are doing to improve the health standards of breeds.
Keep up the hard work – it is patently evident that this is mow a well organised association
