A man from Australia, who freed his dog from ‘death row’ and then went on the run has offered to surrender, according to the police.
Max, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross was due to be put to sleep for allegedly mauling sheep.
When his owner, Mr Ron Gilbertson went to say goodbye to Max, he cut the dog from it’s cage and fled, leaving his family behind.
Police in South Australia have located the renegade pair and Mr Gilbertson is prepared to surrender.
Andy Stott of Mount Gambier police said: “We have found out where he is and he will come in within the next few days to surrender to charges,”
Mr Gilbertson faces charges of removing a seized dog and damaging property.
He could also face a large bill for legal costs related to his earlier court attempt to overturn the decision to destroy Max.
