The Story of Endal to be Turned in to £5m Hollywood Film
The story of Endal – Allen Parton’s former assistance dog – is to be turned in to a £5m movie, set to air next year.
The Hollywood treatment comes on the back of Allen’s memoir becoming an international best selling book, depicting the amazing story of Endal and Allen’s fascinating life together.
Allen says:
‘The book was an international bestseller – it touched so many people.
‘We were approached earlier in the year because they wanted to do a movie about it. They have been working on it for quite some time now and the producers have been sending contracts across London in the back of taxis. It’s all very exciting.’
Endal was the inaugural winner of K9 Media’s ‘UK’s Coolest Canine Competition’ and has a special place in the hearts of many K9 Magazine readers.
Simon Brooks who produced a documentary on Allen and Endal is quoted as saying he would like either Colin Firth or Michael Sheen to play Allen with Kate Winslet or Rachel Weisz as his wife, Sandra.
He says: ‘I’m a doggy owner as well and one night I was flicking through the channels when I came across Endal’s story by accident.
‘The more I looked into it, the more moved I became and I thought: “this is a movie”.
‘Allen and Sandra’s story is simply extraordinary. I can’t comprehend how they have made it through.’
Calendar Girls scriptwriter Juliette Towhidi has begun working on the script for the £5m project.
