As we read in recent press, celebrity dog owner Lionel Blair has apparently reached out to psychics in an effort to find his missing dog.

I feel for Lionel, honestly I do because I know how devastating it is to lose a dog. In fact it sounds odd but I can tell you, having a dog go missing or seeing stolen is in many ways a worse feeling than when they die.

You can never rest and the doubt goes on for years. You conjeur up the worst images in your mind as to what might have happened and it eats you up.

I can see why Blair has pulled out the psychic story. He needs publicity. The more publicity he can get, the better his chances of being reunited. Fair play to him.

I don’t for one second believe that he believes in all this psychic mumbo jumbo, he knew it would be an angle that the press would pick up on and he went for it with the knowledge that all publicity is good publicity when it comes to trying to recover your precious dog.

The episode did bring my thoughts to the psychics though.

These folks aren’t approaching this game with the same motives as Mr Blair. They, in my opinion, either believe the tripe they’re spouting (in which case they should be sectioned under the mental health act) or they are confidence tricksters, intent on exploiting people at their most vulnerable.

“I see, I see your dog. He’s, he’s erm, he’s running. His tail’s wagging. Oh he’s happy, he’s so happy. He’s playing in the grass and he’s joyous. He misses you though but he’s happy. He wants you to know he’s happy. As much as he misses you he needs you to know he’s happy and content and he’ll never forget you”.

B*****s! Absolute rubbish. I’m not swallowing this and I’m surprised that as a nation we are all too happy to allow these charlatans to happily continue their trade in lies and deceit. We just seem to turn the other cheek or for a small, misguided minority, buy into this garbage hook, line and sinker. Let’s have it right shall we? Someone who claims to be able to connect with MY dog from an old picture is lying to my face at a time when I’m really prepared to believe anything. Someone who actually believes their own spiel that they really can connect with MY dog from an old picture should be quickly escorted to the white room with the soft walls.

Lionel Blair, I applaud your efforts and certainly empathise with your motives. Canine psychics,  stop conning people who are already at their lowest. You’ll go to hell for it, I can see it in your future!
