A 12 week old Chihuahua, called Smokey, is fortunate to be alive after getting a grilling fork lodged in it’s skull. The accident happened at a family party when the handle snapped off whilst feeding the dogs scraps from the barbecue.

The unlucky – or very lucky, depending on how you view it, pup ran into the woods with the fork stuck in his skull and went missing for 2 days. The dog was rushed to the vets where the fork was removed in emergency surgery.

The pup is making a full recovery, although he has lost all eyesight in his right eye.

Vet, Dr Keaton Smith said: “They came in in a total panic…What the owner was describing was pretty unbelievable but then I saw Smokey and almost passed out with shock.

“I quickly anaesthetised him and put my hand over his head and then just pulled the fork out.”

“I have never seen anything like it in 25 years of vetting and I can’t believe he has survived.”

The dog’s owners, Hughie and Billie Wagers from London, Kentucky said: ”The handle of the fork broke off and it went straight into Smokey’s head. He ran away and after that we thought he must have gone off and died. But two days later he came walking back up the driveway with the fork still stuck in his head and we took him straight to the vets.”

”It scared me half to death looking at it hanging out but he’s doing good now even though it went right into his brain. We thought he was going to die but he’s one lucky dog.”

I don’t believe a fork could get that far into a puppy’s head without extreme force. The fork would have to be dropped from an airplane to generate enough velocity to penetrate a puppy’s skull as far as it did. To think, they saw it happen, and a 12 week old puppy ran so fast, no one could catch it or care enough to look for it? This needs to be investigated!!!!

i have to agree with tony, how can a fork go that far into the skull when apparently all that happened was ” The handle of the fork broke off and it went straight into Smokey’s head……” it would need a lot more force than just dropping on top of his head.

then to let the poor little thing just run off and not bother going to look for him but leaving him out there is just horrendous.

maybe someone should be investigating this “accident” to see what really happened.

This baby’s ower let him wander for 2 days? What the hell is wrong with these owners? They should be prosecuted for extreme animal abuse! I can’t believe miscreants are allowed to have an sentient being!

What on earth will it take for this to be investigated?? It’s highly evident that the force that would have been required to lodge the fork in the puppy’s brain would have taken far more than simply being “dropped” onto him. I don’t buy it for a minute. If his owners are guilty of this, I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law – if there is such in Kentucky…..
