Reports in today’s media suggest the mother of tragic dog attack victim Archie-Lee Hirst has been attacked in the street by an angry mob.

In an exclusive Daily Mirror story, the paper outlines events:

The mum of a toddler killed by a pet Rottweiler was in hiding last night after being beaten up by a hate mob.

Rebecca Hirst, 18, was knocked senseless by the screaming gang outside a nightclub – just a week after the funeral of Archie-Lee, her 13-month-old son.

One of her attackers shouted: “That’s for killing your kid.”

The sickening scenes came just hours after her own mother blamed her for the child’s death.

One witness to the 4.15am attack said: “It was terrible.

“At first, they were just shouting at the young girl, then they surrounded her and started pushing her about.

“The next thing I saw was her getting smacked in the face.

“She fell over and one of them went right up to her and screamed, ‘That’s for killing your kid’. That’s when I realised who she was.”

Rebecca, who was left with bruises and a cut face, was so shaken up that she has fled her flat and gone into hiding.

Yesterday, she told friends: “I don’t know what I’m going to do. First I lose Archie-Lee, now this. I am so scared I can’t even walk the streets.

“There’s no way I can stay in my flat after this.”

The toddler – who had been left alone with his aunts Kara, 16, and Maia, seven – was attacked by the Rottweiler owned by Rebecca’s mother Sharon Hirst on December 28.

The 10st animal ripped the boy from the arms of Maia and was mauled to death despite the brave efforts of Kara.

Sharon, 42, slammed her daughter for leaving the child alone with her younger sisters.

She said: “I told Becki, ‘You can’t go out. You’ve got Archie to look after’.

“She said, ‘I’ll do what I want’. She stormed out without even kissing him goodbye.

“That was the last we heard from her until I called her mobile from the hospital two days later to tell her about the dog attack. She was in a pub.

“She’s been out most nights since his death. I have found that impossible to understand.”

An ambulance spokesman said a woman was treated after an assault outside Quest nightclub in Wakefield, West Yorks, but was not taken to hospital.
