The niche satellite broadcaster More4 has picked up the poison chalice that is Crufts TV coverage. The RSPCA withdrew from the event – calling it cruel – as did the PDSA, Dogs Trust and the BBC dropped the show from its schedules over the same welfare concerns. But More4 (owned by Channel 4) obviously doesn’t share the same animal welfare concerns, a decision that will surely attract criticism for the channel. The event – which is to be sponsored, bizarrely, by the sofa manufacturer with annoying adverts, DFS, will be shown on the minority interest channel with a ‘new More 4 twist’ according to the press release.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Communications Director, said:

“Dog shows such as Crufts, are crucial to safeguarding the long term health and welfare of pedigree dogs.
