The RSPCA has added its voice to the growing outrage over the treatment of death row dog, Bruce, in Northern Ireland. The UK’s largest animal welfare charity said:

It is wrong that an entire breed of dog should be banned purely on the basis of its genetic make-up, without any consideration of an individual dog’s characteristics and temperament. (cont…)

The Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Act 1997 was introduced in England and Wales so that the automatic death sentence on all pit bull type dogs was lifted. If Northern Ireland had adopted this amendment, many family pets identified as being pit bull types would be allowed to live out their life with their owners in accordance with the law. They would not be forced to spend their final days in kennels before being inevitably destroyed.

The RSPCA continues to campaign for the government to reassess its current dog legislation and shift emphasis from the four legs at the end of a lead to the two legs at the other. We want irresponsible owners to be held accountable for their actions, not their dogs

Aren’t you the same group who withheld bones from Bruce when Shannon was bringing them to him EVERY DAY? Aren’t you the same group of people who has allowed him to get in the sad shape he is in? SO GLAD TO HEAR NOW YOU WANT TO HELP WHEN YOU DID NOT BEFORE. THE ANIMAL LOVERS OF THE WORLD WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU HAVE PUT BRUCE THRU AND NEITHER WILL BRUCE. YOU HAVE BRUTALIZED HIM, TORMENTED HIM AND HAVE COME CLOSE TO KILLING HIM BEFORE THE COURTS DID! Well intentioned but tenuous at best. A little late now for your misgivings on what you have done to Bruce. Are you feeling the heat now, RSPCA? The heat of HELL is what you will feel for standing by and DOING NOTHING! You will NEVER never be able to live this one down, RSPCA. You are a bunch of murdering, cutthroat bunch of micreants who do not deserve to breathe the same air as Bruce. You need to be investigated and soon before you are allowed to “assume the care” of any more sentients.

Hold on, I think you may be confusing the RSPCA with another organisation.

The RSPCA is a charity in England and Wales.

Amend the law?, Please give me a break, why keep the law my amending it?, wouldn’t be better if you repealed it?,

The reason I say this is, if you ‘amend’ the law it still makes no guarantee that the dogs get to live, they still have to have their fate decided in court, they still have to go through all the trauma of being boxed up for any amount of time.

This of course could be stopped if you repealed the law, please RSPCA practice what you preach and ACTUALLY prevent cruelty to animals, the only way this could be achieved is by repealing the legislation all together.

No ifs no buts a repeal and NOT a cover up, I have reason to believe that the new that was proposed and of course rejected, known as the ‘control of dogs bill’ was in fact a code name for DDA and of course I don’t support that either.

Its great that the RSPCA has finally spoken out on this matter, however it is fair to say that they do sit on the fence regarding issues like this, eg. Kodee. Whilst they dilly dally around with politics, dogs are suffering, therefore they are not protecting our animals. RSPCA, you have 20 years of ignoring BSL to make amends for and you owe this to the thousands of doggies who have lost their lives under this ‘law’.

Your support is appreciated however late it comes.

The USPCA should be speaking out for Bruce, why haven’t they made any comment?

Why are the RSPCA or their equivalent in Ireland not investigating the clear neglect this dog is suffering, let alone the emotional abuse at the way he has been treated?

Bruce’s case is just another example of what is basically racism by the authorities towards dogs that through no fault of their own, are born looking a certain way. Whilst the police are busy seizing well loved harmless family pets, leaving greyhounds to starve to death in their kennels for two weeks, and leaving their own serving dogs in their cars to die of heat exhaustion, they dare to preach to the rest of the population.

This is racism pure and simple and it is also animal cruelty and neglect, and yet the police, the RSPCA and everyone else claiming to care about animals, and who would be very happy to prosecute any member of the public for the same actions, sit back and do nothing.

Are we all to sit terrified in our houses in case an interfering busy body neighbour reports us for having a wrong looking dog? Are we to hide indoors in case the police seize our pets whilst out for a walk because they don’t like the way it looks? This is meant to be a civilised country and yet crap like this still exists and is allowed to carry on freely. And worse still even when our pets are proved to be totally innocent they are at best kept in terrible conditions away from their families, and suffer neglect and emotional abuse until they are returned to their families – and that is the best case scenario here. The rest are disposed of without their owners even being informed or ordered to be put down by pedantic heartless idiots clearly consumed by their own power.

This situation is an absolute disgrace and these ‘people’ and I use the term loosely should be ashamed of themselves. And jumping on the bandwagon and pretending to care like these charities have is just not on – either put up or shut up as they say. I would never again donate money to any of them if this is how they use their significant influence to help those in need.
