National Canine Research Council Speaks Out For Bruce, Death Row Dog
The following statement has been issued by the NCRC (National Canine Research Council), just one of many prominent voices speaking out about the detention and death warrant placed on Bruce, the dog condemned to die because of what he looks like.
It is totally unacceptable and a monument to human foolishness that, Bruce, a dog no one has ever had a complaint against, and whose owners have moved heaven and earth not just to save his life, but to have him back in theirs, and whom even the judge said posed no danger, stands at the edge of eternity. And for what? His appearance? The evidence is incontrovertible that breed specific legislation protects no one against anything. It is a miserable failure, nothing more than a rationale for fear-driven animal cruelty.
Liberate Bruce now. And let his liberation stand as a monument to common sense and compassion.

I wholeheartedly agree with the statement given by the National Canine Research Council in defence of family dog Bruce. It is vital that we keep Bruce’s plight in high profile and may common sense and compassion win the day and win this lovely friendly dog his life. The world is watching and waiting and whilst we wait there is much to be done to spread the word that BSL takes innocent lives, Bruce must not become another tragic statistic.
blame the deed not the breed!……….
WHY is Bruce in this situation? He should be at home with his family. He’s done nothing wrong.
Is the police officer who let his dogs die in his car going to be punished the same way as Bruce…????
Will he even lose his job?
Something is seriously wrong with the law.
The treatment of Bruce by a so called civilized society is a complete disgrace. It is unbelievable how a piece a fascist legislation is being used to treat poor Bruce in such a heinous way. Bruce does not deserve to be caged in appaling conditions that clearly contradict the Animal Welfare Act.
His poor muzzle is so sore as he desparatley seeks the love and affection that he deserves by poking it through his cage. Bruce has been offered a loving home in Southern Ireland, why can the Judge not allow him to go and live out his days amounst people who will care for him?
I only hope that sense will prevail and Bruce will be freed to live in sanctuary far away from his captors.
How can this awful situation be allowed to continue when Bruce and his family have already suffered so much.
PLEASE FREE BRUCE
Free Bruce!!! Let him go home! Put an end to the laws banning dogs based upon breed! It’s not the breed that is the problem.
I agree to.
I think the RSPCA should be making a statement and supporting bruce publically, as the biggest UK animal welfare organisation, but can’t find it on their web site anywhere unfortunately.
Please free this sweet boy.He did nothing wrong, let him return to the family who love him and miss him.Poor Bruce suffering for no reason other than how he looks and that is so,so wrong!
I completely agree with Liane – If this is what we call a civilized society than we have our definition of civilized completely wrong. To take a healthy, happy, friendly, non-aggressive and 100% sociable dog from a loving, caring, RESPONSIBLE home and throwing him into conditions where he has open sores covering his body, a huge loss of weight and muscle…. all because of his breed? What happened to justice? Now pet owners are punished for being responsible? What about the illegal dog fighting ring that includes high ranking officials such as judges, lawyers, doctors, etc.? It’s okay to ‘look the other way’ when it comes to that but not when it comes to responsible dog owners?
Perhaps our plight to be rid of discrimination and racism among humans has caused some to search for other avenues to fill their need to discriminate. What kind of society are we living in?
It’s interesting to perceive that scientific studies have linked those who torture animals also have sociopath tendencies…. what about those who murder animals without reason? A needle and fluid is the same as murder. Capitol punishment for being a specific breed? How does that differ from the Holocaust? Thousands of Jewish were killed because they were Jewish… thousands of ‘pit bull’ types have been killed because they are ‘pit bull’ types.
This is much larger than the pain of a family and their beloved pet… this is what our society has become. There should NEVER be a law that states any living being can be murdered. We have no right to take the life of anyone, or anything.
The “National Canine Research Council” is a one woman show. Designed to sell books for this self published author. Raw data is not available to verify the subjective conclusions reached by this “Council”. Anyone can give themselves an impressive name, doesn’t mean they have credibility. And I would like the commenter who says there should never be a law that states any living being can be murdered, to go to http://www.DogsBite.org and see all the murdered people by pits and pit types. According to DogsBite, pits and pit types are murdering people in the US on average one every 21 days. Should there be laws against this type of murder? Look at the victims of attacks as well, children with life altering scars and trauma, delivered by pits and pit types. Something needs to be done. What these dogs were bred for is now illegal, why does the breed need to continue?
Hp you say raw data isnt avaliable for NCRC statistics. Yet your site and the statistics you plug are no more than pie in the sky. You use bite stats by the CDC who themselves state that there is no accurate way to determine which breeds are more likely to bite or kill.
Ive looked at the site briefly. Ive seen many just like it. I havent read all the evidence you offer up (by way of news reports!) to back your claim. I did scan through some and from a few of the titles alone can see the issue. Curiously the issue isnt the breed. You look at the dog scream shout and fail to look at anything else. Thats a hell of a shame as by doing so you fail to see factors that really could lead to a decrease in dog bites and attacks.
Karen Delise as a grand total to my knowledge of one book on the market. Her previous one is no longer being printed. . Have you actually read it? I have. Ms Delise doesnt need a website to plug her own book. Its a very informative book that I personally suggest to anyone with an interest in the subject. I suggest you read it
HP –
What a cold-hearted, miserable person you must be.
This is about ONE poor dog that is going to die for absolutely no fault of his own and of the pain and heart ache his owners are going thru.
But, instead of feeling for these people and this dog, you use this site to defame people and spew your hatred by pushing a blog that is also full of hatred.
HP – What a sad miserable life you must have. Go away – caring people, people with hearts don’t need to be exposed to your garbage.
Peace to all that wish peace – and I pray for this poor dog and his family.
Pit Bull Placebo has been put online by the author.

Excellent book
I also recommend that people read it.
Read what a U.S. Canine Fatality Investigator has to say about the site posted by HP
He left a comment on the linked blog below

[quote]…The author is not remotely interested in accuracy-I have sent several comments correcting ‘facts’ from having been on scene-and they never appear….Dogbites is nothing more than a hate fueled site with a clear agenda to warp the truth and destroy a breed of dog based on the authors personal feelings.

Bruce must be allowed to go home to be with his family.
He is one of many who finds himself in this predicament because of these barbaric laws.
The world want to see what unauthorised People in local government from these Animal Welfare groups can do your Security Dog under Common Law in Queensland, when the rest of Australia has conformed to the Australian Standards, I have been Certified as Police Dog Handler by the Commonwealth since 1969 registered and Security Licensed instructor for QLD and NSW in the training of Police/Security Dog.
With Certificates indorsed by the Commonwealth with the Australian Logo stating such, if you do not come under GCC Council`s approved unbrella of unqualified instructors in Queensland, Local Government Rangers Association will put your dog down when it protect you in any given situation even after Legal Court Proceedings proving your innocents.
Would be glad tell you my story of Council`s nonsencial approch in what I had to do retain my sanity over them in Queensland waiting for Queensland to play catch up with Australian Law to legslations Australian Government wrote to protect all Australians.

I am amazed that the police or other so called law agencies have picked out one breed of dogs to eradicate. There is a law in the US that prohibits pit bulls or anything that looks like a pit. This law is only in certain states. Where will it go from here. I am a caucasian, the president of our country is a negro. What if he decides to kill all caucasions? He could do it. He has broken so many laws and lied to the public that “adored” him so much that it wouldn’t surprise me what he will do next.
Then again what is the average IQ of most of the people that inforce these ignorant laws. It is hard to deal with an ignoramus or a person with an IQ below idiot level. They can’t comprehend what is right and what is right. As for Bruce I wish him the best. Keep on doing what you can and hope for the best.
Animal control is out of control in this country. The people that run the place fight to be there on kill day. I guess that says it all about them.
Delta
Yes HP is indeed a saddo. It’s probably Colleen Lynn, author of that hate site Dogsbite.org.
Glad to see you folk have put links to Brent Toellner’s excellent blog and Jim’s comments re Ms Lynn’s inability to tolerate healthy discussion or any form of critical analysis of her so-called “facts”.
I too have a copy of Karen Delise’s excellent book and recommend it.
Another excellent work is Janis Bradley’s “Dogs Bite: But Balloons and Slippers are more Dangerous”.
As for poor little Bruce, Northern Ireland needs to vote the people responsible for his appalling plight out of office.
Now there is nothing wrong with Colleen Lynn’s website, I joined it my self…. and got banned
Delta, there is not one state in the US that bans pit bulls, not one. Yes, states have declared them dangerous considering they are killing US citizens at the rate of one every 22 days. Some cities have banned them, some cities have set regulations, but not one state has done so. If you had one car model that was defective and causing fatal accidents, would you go buy one? Or would you pass a law or have a recall of this model car? Go to http://www.pitattacksbystate.blogspot.com and see what people are facing in the US. The problem as I see it is that law enforcement is too easy in enforcing the dog laws. And we need more laws to protect us from pit bulls and the bully breeds. Even in the decade of the Dobbies when they were the dangerous breed, in the US they only killed 5 people in a decade. The pits have killed 84 people in the past four years, a record. And then we have the propaganda machines such as the “National Canine Research Council”, a corporation designed to make money, not what the name implies. It is one woman, a self published author with absolutely no credentials to say that she is an “expert”, that’s only self proclaimed.
