Pit Bulls: Show Them Respect or Something Inside Them Just Switches
Today’s headline from the crazy, crazy world of dog legislation. This quote comes from PC Mick Holland a so-called expert dog handler. A policeman from a force which wasn’t the one that has allowed two of its own dogs to fry to death in a hot car, but a policeman never the less. Here’s what PC Holland thinks about evil Pit Bulls…“In some respects the owner was glad to get rid of them today. They’re only a year old but they’ve got to an age where he can’t control them. People don’t realise what they’re like. They’re not pets – they’re bred for fighting. They need all their energies channelled into something which is why they get channelled into dog fighting.”
—-Source
What? They’re not pets? OK, tell that to the MILLIONS (yes, MILLIONS) of people who happily keep Pit Bulls as pets in the countries that don’t have muppets making the dog laws up as they go along and don’t have ‘dog experts’ who (think) and say……
“Dogs like this should never be kept with children, it’s disgusting,” said PC Holland. “Dogs see kids as puppies. If they don’t show enough respect something inside of them just switches. An adult couldn’t bring two dogs off a child.”
—-Source
Dogs see kids as puppies? No. They do not. Believe it or believe it not, dogs are evolved and domesticated enough to differentiate between species. They don’t see giraffes as beef burgers. They don’t see fish as cows. They don’t see turkeys as Cadbury’s Flakes. They don’t see kids as puppies. They see kids as humans, they see dogs as dogs.
If they don’t show enough ‘respect’ something switches. Well, sorry PC Ali G, but ‘respek’ is highly anthropomorphic and, to be frank, hyperbolic cretin-speak that has no place coming out of the mouth of anyone who is described as a ‘dog expert’.
If you want to know what your tax money is paying for, it’s for the Police to run a so-called ‘status dog’ unit and to spout utter, utter drivel like this to the local media.
This legendary Pit Bull ‘switch’. If anyone has the science on that, I’d love to see it.
This ‘show them respect or they’ll kill you’ nonsense. I’d love to know how all of the millions of Pit Bull owners around the world have evaded death at the jaws of their super killing machines. Perhaps they could pass on their ‘respect’ tips to us British fools? Oh, wait. No need. There can not BE any Pit Bulls in the UK as we banned them all in 1991. How’s that law working out Mr Police?
Sergeant Chris Walsh, head of Finsbury Park Safer Neighbourhoods Team, who organised the raid, said: “We’ve got a lot of these dogs in the area and they’re causing all sorts of larger problems. It will only take one or two more raids like this and the word will get out that we’re proactively looking to take more dangerous dogs.”

Oh really?
NOW we’re getting somewhere.
The police (you know, the organisation who have been speaking today after two of their own dogs were left in a hot car to die a slow, agonising death) are doing raids like this in order to ‘put the word out’ about dangerous dogs.
Dangerous dogs – clearly – meaning these respect-demanding, hair-trigger-switch-flicking Pit Bulls that (as far as we can see) haven’t actually attacked ANYONE! Or maybe they have and the local press just didn’t report it.
If you ever wondered why the UK STILL has breed specific legislation it’s because there are muppets in power who simply aren’t equipped with the knowledge to understand canine behaviour and breed specific traits.
Today the BBC contacted me to take part in a debate next week on the Dangerous Dogs Act – not for the first time – NOBODY would put up the counter-argument as to why we STILL have breed specific legislation. The BBC has tried every angle, NOBODY would put forward the argument as to why our dangerous dogs laws are not a crock of weak, ill thought out garbage.
Why?
Oh, and PC Holland is right and Pit Bulls are ‘not pets’ just how, I might ask, would he explain this (shocking) picture….

If someone sees Cesar Millan, PLEASE warn him that his PET might be on the verge of flicking the death switch. (Failing that – if you’re completely mad/brave/delirious – ask him if you can give his PET Pit Bull a hug!)
Usually end these features with a link and a message saying End Bsl. Today, something different……
End Police-Based-Muppetry. Educate a police officer today about the difference between pets/puppies/children and switches. Don’t believe the hype, don’t buy in to the muppetry.
Thank you.

In America, our shelters are full of pits, pit types, and pit mixes, FULL. No owner comes to claim them. And you have to ask why. The reason is many of these “stray” dogs were thrown out because they did bite someone or killed another pet. We don’t have a true idea of how many attacks are caused by these dogs other than to look at the shelters and wonder why no one shows up to claim their “pet”. And the owners are trying to hide these facts by “getting rid of” the dog by either dumping it or surrending it to the shelter. If you google the American news feeds daily, you will see multiple attacks by pits/pit types, multiple. There is no conspiracy by the media to “get the pits”. Often the stories carry the picture of the attacking dog and one can see clearly that the dog is what they say it is. According to http://www.DogsBite.org, in American pits and pit types are killing people on average of one every 21 days. I say that is more than enough reason to be pro-active with BSL, rather than re-active after someone is dead.

The “Anonymous” poster is correct,I have heard that in the USA one cannot walk
down a street and there are these packs of Pitbulls waiting to attack us poor defenceless humans ,people are locking there doors at night because of this
monumental threat of the “Attacking Pits” it is even getting close to all the Alien
abductions that are being perpetrated by the monsters from Mars, one almost
gets the feeling that the Pits and the Aliens have joined forces to wipe out
human dominance.
Must run now want to see what the “tooth fairy” has left me today.
HP for the record in the whole USA there are less than 20 fatal dog attacks
per annum(All Breeds)If you beleive Dogbite Org. facts then you obviously also beleive in the tooth fairy.
That is outrageous. I wonder if PC Holland realises how his comments have just highlighted how little knowledge he must have on dogs. Incredible! But then when you have seminars organised and held by the met basically giving out the same type of information I’m sadly not surprised.
I have rescued all kinds of dogs over 40 years, including several pit bulls and mixes thereof. They have been no more aggressive than the other breeds, just more powerful and agile, which traits are exploited by rotten people. The book “The Pit Bull Placebo” explains how people create the problem and the dogs get blamed for it. The pit bull I have now was just hours from being “euthanized.” He was not facing death because he bit anyone or harmed any animal, but because of breed prejudice. He has been the best dog . When he was attacked by a labrador retriever a few months ago, he received many bite wounds but did not deliver ANY! He simply wrestled with the dog and tried to push it away until some people pulled the other dog away. When I told this to the groomer who grooms my cocker spaniel, she told me the same type of incident happened at our local doggie day care center, where a very big, strapping pit bull was attacked by two golden retrievers and a labrador, and also did not fight back.
That said, too many people who should not have high energy dogs are getting them anyway and not giving them any attention, let alone exercise. They languish on chains, many underfed, a lot of them teased, and a lot of them abused. I’m getting up in age now, and this will probably be my last (young) pit bull because it is necessary to be able to keep up with them! And as for the police, I was a civilian employee at the Ventura Police Department for nearly 18 years, and although there are exceptions to the rule, my experience is that police are of lower consciousness. My website is Stoplynching.com – see how they treat their own K9′s behind the scenes and what they are willing to do to people who speak out about it.
Anybody with a brain knows that ANY dog not trained or socialised can be dangerous. It’s not the breed, it’s the idiots who have them. We need to have strict controls on who breeds dogs and who is allowed to own them. I have an English Bull Terrier and I’m scared that one day the powers that be (who generally know nothing but think they know everything) will ban them too!!!!!……….isn’t this similar to what Hitler tried to do to the human race?
Less than twenty fatal attacks a year is an acceptable number?
This article is so funny, but unfortunately it is also very serious.
Down with muppets and dumb plods
This Mick Holland is he for real or just a comic book character? For the record
there are a few states that do not like Pitbulls as police dogs as they are far too gentle and prefer playing with their trainer ,and sitting on his lap than doing serious work.
You have to also understand that certain cops would rather go after family pets than
dangerous criminals , I think his name is Haig from the Merseyside police,he had his whole force going after family pets, the Rapists, Murderers,Paediaphiles etc had
field days in Merseyside/Manchester while he was campaigning to murder all the pits and anything that resembled them in the area.Idiots like this should not have
positions of power.
here is a link especially for pc mick holland – meet Neville the pit bull terrier who is a bomb detection dog, wonder if he has the on/off switch doh!
http://www.pitbulllovers.com/pitbull-rescue-neville-bomb-dog.html
if shelters are full of ‘pit bull types’ take it out on the back yard breeders, it’s not the dogs fault, target the puppy peddlers, if they couldn’t abuse pits it would be some other breed of dog to rake their cash in off the back of
Marock, what a load of garbage re Merseyside. I’ve never heard or read such rubbish. The Merseyside Handlers have dealt with a law they don’t like in the most humane way they can. They have pioneered new standards and lead the way. They have to enforce the law, they have no choice. When was the last time you dealt with cases of Thigh muscles, biceps and triceps and whole body parts missing. The vast majority of siezed dogs in Merseyside are section 3 dogs, not section 1. If you don’t believe me make a FOI request to the force. Wind your neck in and get your fact right before putting things in print.
Sorry Dave if I have hit a nerve,my experience in Manchester/Merseyside relates
to an 8 month old pit named Reuben that was part of a dysfunctional family and killed a little girl on I think New Years Eve.
With the above facts one could assume Pits did have the “switch”,and Sky news
did not miss a trick in showing off basically every 5 mins this vicious animal that
had for” no reason” attacked and killed this little girl.
THE TRUTH
The dog was owned by the little girl’s uncle an in and out of jail drug user and dealer
whose favourite hobby was dog-fighting and he had been feeding this poor animal
on Anabolic Steroids,in the picture being bandied around by the media and on TV
Reuben looked fully grown at least a 2 year old.Not sure if any CHARGES were
brought against the uncle barring a breach of the DDA 1991.But the chief or his
deputy issued the standard statement “THIS MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN”
Logic would have told me they would have gone after dog-fighters,Oh No,went the easy route ,after people’s family dogs.I do not have a figure on how many
of these animals were MURDERED but I understand it was MANY thousands.
Regarding enforcement of law BSL is directly out of MEIN KAMPFF,Adolph Hitler’s
Bible.A Law must be FAIR and REASONABLE and if NOT it is the DUTY of
Decent Human Beings to DEFY such.
Last example If a drunken driver got behind the wheel of a Ford motor car and
killed three children ,would the Merseyside Police arrest the CAR or the DRIVER?
(not a trick question)
‘shelters full of pit bull types’ – there is no evidence to support that statement.
I am in Ohio, US and it is the worst state for BSL. As the rest of our country goes forward AGAINST BSL (aside from smaller hick towns where the education is “limited”) my disgusting state is trying to put an all out ban on not just the specific breeds but any dog “who resembles a pit bull type”..which is a boxer mix, a bulldog mix, a rotty mix…etc…etc… They sit around being ignorant killing innocent dogs who have done nothing but exist or because of the shape of the head they were born with. Absolutely ridiculous!!
I run a rescue and I am a serious activist for any and all breeds. Not just anyone should have any kind of dog. Some dogs are a better fit for some people. I am not a poodle person. I love my Staffys. They are very loving, friendly to strangers, and are GREAT with my child and my friends children. I wouldnt have any other kind. We love to take ours and our rescue fosters (some have had terrible lives) out to events so people can meet them and I have an opportunity to educate! People love them and they love the people, yes, even the ones we rescued from chains!
As usual HP has had a bit too much of the DogsBite.org kool-aid. If there is an above average presence of “pit bull” type of dog in the animal shelters is
1) They are the most popular breed “type”in the United States.
2) Fear mongering by the media which in turn causes discrimination i.e. expensive restrictions by cities and towns, landlords and insurance companies.
Enforce leash and containment laws. Education not legislation.
A dog is only as dangerous as it’s owner allows it to be.
Found this today…
Pits in the wrong hands, however, doen’t mean their all human aggressive, i am really becoming anti-human.
Twenty pitbull-type “weapon dogs” were seized in police raids in south London today.
In one of the first operations of its kind officers swooped on the homes of known gang members and captured dogs which have been terrorising local communities.
All the animals seized in the raids in Kennington — including a litter of six puppies — are suspected of being banned pitbulls.
Specialist officers from the Met’s newly-established Status Dogs unit were trying to identify the breed of the animals.
The aim of Operation Navara was to target “weapon dogs”, which are believed to be used for fighting or intimidation. In some cases police smashed down front doors as the animals barked loudly inside.
Wearing protective gear, padded sleeves and carrying fire extinguishers to deal with any aggression, specialist handlers dragged snarling dogs into cages using restraining poles.
The animals will be examined by the Met’s Status Dog Unit before a court hearing to decide their fate.
Two adult dogs were seized along with six four-week-old puppies from a three-storey house in Renfrew Road, Kennington. Officers suspect the home was being used for breeding.
Puppies believed to be used for breedingThe majority of raids were based on intelligence about dangerous dogs being used by gang members — though some were responding to complaints from neighbours.
The raids came as figures revealed the scale of pitbull ownership in London. Sergeant Ian McPartland, who heads the Status Dog Unit, said his officers had seized 273 dogs since the squad was established three months ago, 240 of which were pitbulls.
He revealed that criminals in the capital were breeding Staffordshire terriers with Bull Mastiffs to recreate the original American Pitbull breed.
He said: “This is how pitbulls were first created 200 years ago and it is happening again in London today, though we are also coming across some brought in from Southern Ireland and Eastern Europe.
“We are looking for dogs involved in anti-social behaviour, crimes or used for protecting criminal assets.”
Four years ago the Met recovered 40 dangerous dogs from the streets. Last year it seized 719, of which 600 were pitbulls. Lambeth North Superintendent Clive Wakeley said: “Gangs carry knives and guns and keep pit bulls as a weapon and as a status symbol.”
“If you target them and take 20 out, it is undermining their position and undermining them in terms of having a weapon they can use.”
Kit Malthouse, the deputy mayor for policing, said: “Weapon dogs are not fluffy pets. Do not be fooled by the wagging tail. They are kept to intimidate and cause injury or death, no different from a knife or a gun.
“The rise in use of these unfortunate animals has caused fear and alarm in neighbourhoods across the capital. Many people, parents, elderly people and other dog owners will breathe a little easier this morning.”
surely if you cross a stafford with a mastiff what you get is a crossbreed know as a staffie cross mastiff, if might grow to be a pit bull type but it’s not an american pit bull terrier, if the police are going to try wipe out types they had better lobby to ban al breeds, kc registered included, which when crossed can produce a ‘type’.
if you take twenty dogs out- what about the dogs, the puppies seized, all to be killed are they, their fault no doubt,
why don’t you target irresponsible people instead of dogs, people don’t ‘breath easier’ because some dogs have been seized, when irresponsile owners are left to just go out and get anoher dog
I have a 12 month old male, he’s half English Bull Terrier and half Staffordshire Bull Terrier (KC registered as a Staffy-cross). In his looks I’d say he’s inherited the longer and taller body shape of an English but the face of a Staff and about once a month while we’re out walking I’m asked, generally by young men, whether or not he’s a Pit Bull.
I know for certain that he’s not (the parent dogs belonged to my cousin) but I’m not really educated in the ways that the police work out what breed a dog is, other than by ‘what they look like’. Can anybody tell me a little about it, or is it really as simple the police just guessing by looking at them?
nicky anne you will be alarmed to hear that a panell of so called experts measure things such as the width of head and length of tail to determine if a dog is of a pitbull type. as to the polices comments that bullmastiffs crossed with staffs make pitbulls. perhapse they should do a bit more reaserch. as an owner of american bulldogs(our origianal english bulldog before it was so badly deformed to make the show type bulldog of today)this is something ive looked into. you cross an american bulldog with a terrier in order to make a pitbull. as for dogbite.org, i had a good look on there but when i tried to add a comment i found that i would not be able to unless it was in villification of this breed. this is not a site that is willing to look at a rational picture so should be left to the hysterics. as for the idea that people are throwing away thier dangerous pitbulls. that really says alot about a person if they are bitten and then are willing to put everyone at risk by throwing the dog onto the streets. utter madness abounds.
Hi Ryan, Great Article!
You make it very clear and precise, kudos!
Unfortunately the breed from which this PC Mick Holland belongs is a liability to the whole society. Hope I can say it funny but its pathetic – as paid by the public money as an expert he simply act lunatic and spreading misinformation.
If there will be a minute possibility of pit bull’s aggression button as he fantasize, all the people having ‘Pitts’ in their family will bring them to him and push the buttons, before their loved ones get crucify by insane experts like him.
Hey Shelley, Well said!
the police can sieze any dog they think is a pit bull type when its in public, the have to get a warent if its in your house. type just means any dog that looks similar to a pit bull. it doesn’t actually have to be one. yes the police just quess.
if a dog is siezed as pit bull type, it is then asseted by a breed identification ‘experts’, which is sometimes just a vet. all they do is measure the dog and say wether or not it fits into the type describtion. the dog only has to show 60% to be classed as type. some pure bred, kc registered staffies have been siezed and destroyed as pit bull types.
very rarely a DNA test is done.
so bascically, they do decided by what they look like.
if i was you, i’d ask your cousin if you could DNA test the dogs and a copy of the parents kc certificates (expalin why to him/her), and take them with you when you go out, so if police come up to you, you can prove that these 2 dogs are his parents and these 2 dogs are pure, legal, breeds. its up to you if you want to do this, but it is what i what do in the same situation. it will be exspenisve but its better than nothing.
