Pair are charged for skinning pet dog: A woman from Muskogee, Oklahoma is charged with killing and skinning her pet dog in a attempt to make a belt out of the dog’s hide.

Krystal Lynn Lewis told authorities that she killed her Jack Russell Terrier, called Poplin because she could no longer afford to keep it. Although investigators believe it was due to the dog being a gift from an ex lover.

Authorities have said that on June 6th her friend Austin Michael Mullins, reportedly shot the puppy 10 times with a .22-caliber pistol in a nearby park. They then returned to Lewis’ apartment and skinned the dog and pinned it’s hide to a board.

Prosecutors charged the pair on Tuesday with one felony count each of cruelty to animals and ordered them to take mental competency testing.

Mullins and Lewis were being held Thursday in the Muskogee County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, a spokeswoman said.
