Battersea Dogs & Cats Home offers free microchipping for London’s dogs and cats: Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will be opening its doors to offer free microchipping all day on Friday 12 June to encourage more Londoners to permanently identify their pets.

Battersea operates a microchipping scheme for all pet owners throughout the year, but to celebrate National Microchipping Month, the Home is offering free microchipping from 10.30am to 4pm on 12 June.

The Home will also be attending two events in the London Borough of Lambeth and offering free microchipping and pet-tag engraving between 11am and 3pm on 18 June in Norwood Road and on 22 June in Brockwell Park. Battersea has been working closely with Lambeth throughout 2009 to help them reduce the amount of stray dogs in the Borough. Microchipping can cost up to £30 in veterinary surgeries.

Scott Craddock, Director of Operations, said:

“In 2008, 7078 dogs and 2548 cats came into Battersea without microchips, which meant it was even more difficult for them to be reunited with their owners. Microchipping is the only permanent method of identifying your dog or cat, and it ensures that any lost animal can be reunited with its owner as quickly as possible. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is happy to take part in National Microchipping Month to highlight microchipping as a key part of responsible pet ownership. We hope to see as many pet owners in the Home on 12 June and at the events held in Lambeth, helping to ensure that if their pets are ever lost they can find their way home quickly.’’

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is supporting National Microchipping Month, organised by The Kennel Club, throughout June to promote the merits of microchipping.
