West Sussex: Canine Partners (Registered Charity No. 803680) is today announcing that Simon Clare has taken over as Chairman of the assistance dog charity. David Newberry steps down from the chairmanship into the role of Vice-Chairman, a position previously held by Mr Clare.

A Trustee of Canine Partners since 2001, Simon Clare led the search for permanent premises for the charity and directed the purchase and development of the national centre now based at Heyshott, near Midhurst.

He has played an active part in most of the major developments including the development of puppy satellites, of which the charity now has eight around the country. He and his wife, Carys, can regularly be seen around Haslemere, training the latest puppy for Canine Partners, where they settled after postings in Nigeria and The Netherlands. Simon retired from Shell after 32 years in a variety of UK and overseas assignments.

Chief Executive Terry Knott comments “We welcome Simon as Chairman, whilst thanking David Newberry for his dedication and support during the past four years. We are delighted David is remaining involved with the Charity by becoming Vice-Chairman and wish Simon all the best in his new role. Our Trustees receive no remuneration for their contribution, yet work long hours, support functions often far away and are responsible for guiding the integrity and strategic development of the Charity – for which we are incredibly fortunate.”
