My favorite childhood pet was a dog we got when I was eight. My dad noticed me frozen in place for like the entire time we were in the pet store, standing in front of this one cage. I thought getting a dog would require a huge family discussion and was a really big deal. But he quietly came up behind me and said, "How'd you like to take that dog home PM?"
