Heather Mills “Killed my Dog”
A tragic tale with a headline straight out of tabloid heaven.
A woman is claiming a huge firework display organised by former wife of ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, Heather Mills caused her dog’s death.
Reported in today’s Sun newspaper:
Sandra Rowbury, 48, says her Weimaraner bitch Glow was terrified by the barrage of explosions and suffered a fatally bloated gut.
The 20 minutes of bangs and flashes — which came without warning in a quiet rural area — also caused 15 of her horses to stampede in terror, as animal rights activist Mucca and pals sipped champagne.
Sandra, who lives yards from Heather’s 3million pad in Robertsbridge, East Sussex, said: As far as I’m concerned she has hurt my animals. I am distraught Glow died.
It was a huge display — the size of a town’s bonfire celebrations.
Everyone else lets people know if they are planning fireworks, so they can move their animals or give sedatives.
She calls herself an animal lover, but she showed no respect for the animals round here.

The report goes on to explain that
Bloat can be brought on by stress and kills quickly.
As anybody who has ever been unfortunate enough to encounter ‘bloat’ otherwise known as gastric torsion, they will testify to how devastatingly fast the condition can take a dog’s life. But can it really be brought on by the stress of a firework display?
It is well established that bloat tends to affect deep chested dogs. Breeds such as Weimaraners, GSDs, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Rottweilers and Great Danes are particularly high risk.
It’s also believed that bloat is the second biggest killer of pet dogs behind cancer.
We spoke to a vet this morning and asked whether stress could bring on gastric torsion. We were told:
“It is a possibility, but a distant one. The stress itself could not cause a physical twisting of the gut but a scared dog who had recently fed or drunk a lot of water who then went on to run around at great speeds if scared or stressed, could indeed suffer a twisted gut.”
Loud fireworks are known to affect some dogs more seriously than others. It is reported that Heather and her sister actually had their own dogs in attendance at the fireworks display, neither reporting any ill effects.
Weimaraners are from the gundog group and as such many believe they would be un affected by loud firework noises. This is not true. The noises made by exploding fireworks are very different to those made by a gun. They are also accompanied by bright flashes and to the dog, they can be very un-nerving.
