Greyhound Dumped With Ears Cut Off
Yet more distressing news of a mutilated greyhound found on February 14th which had been dumped on wasteland near the village of Iron Acton.
Iron Acton, on the outskirts of Bristol, is situated less than 30 miles from Swindon dog track – a licensed stadium.
Not only had this poor greyhound’s ears been hacked off – to prevent the tracing of the last registered owner – the greyhound was heavily pregnant with six pups.
The RSPCA are hoping someone will recognise the dog, who is black with white markings under her chin and a white blaze between her forelegs, as well as two white spots on her throat.
RSPCA inspector John Atkinson said: This is a very distressing incident for all involved and we are investigating every possible avenue. If any member of the public saw people dumping the dog, or knows of a dog answering this description, I would urge them to contact the RSPCA at once.
We would ask all supporters to highlight not only this disgusting crime but also the exploitation of racing of greyhounds by writing to the Bristol Evening Post

This disgusting mutilation and killing has repulsed greyhound lovers worldwide but not surprisingly some racing greyhound owners and trainers are desperately defending this incident as a 'one off'
An Australian Greyhound Data Team Member – Sue Burley – has even questioned whether this attack was carried out by a member of a greyhound protection group saying –
'And how do we know the whole thing wasn't staged by the antis, gives them a reason to go out shaking their tins'

You really have to question the balance of the minds of the sick people capable of such a crime but also question the mentality of those who defend the industry with such bitter accusations.
Already this month we have seen a greyhound stabbed in the head and killed with a breadknife in Sunderland – a trussed up body of a greyhound found in a potato sack and drowned in Ireland and now this.
Kevin Stow – If this is your idea of more owners and trainers caring for their greyhounds – then your optimism borders on wild delusion – at the continuing cost of greyhounds lives.

Eventhough this case is from Feburary it still has the same sort of impact it had the first time I heard about it. It is stories like this and the greyhounds kept in unsuitabel conditions abandoned starved forced to race whilst injured all in the name of winning that next race. it is a harsh and relentless world of greed where the victims are the gentel greyhounds. my small organisation has existed since 2006 and the horroes seen since then has been as manny as they are heartbreaking. There needs to be a complete change of attitude towards the real breadwinners in this “sport”. Some greyhound owners and trainers genuinly love and care for their greyhounds and provide for them throughout their lives and find good homes for them when it is time to retire. However harsher penalties and bans need to be instigated to better the welfare for those greyhounds still racing. Conditions should be a question of compassion and understanding of the greyhounds you have in your keep. Treating greyhounds as they are today shows a lack of respect and understanding for the life that has entrusted to you the trainer owner of the greyhounds in question. The export of surplus greyhounds to places like Spain must be stopped at all costs because it is inhumane and it leads to a slow agonising death in the end and unspeakabel cruelty for as long as those poor exported greyhounds exists. let us all do everything we can to have this industry brought to its knees as it has been allowed to do to greyhounds for decades without anyone questioning the actions of this blood drenched industry. Sincerly Lisbeth Mønsted Larsen Greyhound Action Denmark. i have had sighthounds since 1986 and started out with a racing greyhound. I currently own three ex-racing greyhounds and one whippet who are deeply loved familymembers. it is my sincere hope that others will find out just how wonderful greyhounds are and thus protest against their maltreatment of these gentel deserving athletes.
