Dog World – The Best Canine Newspaper by Some Distance

Submitted by Ryan O'Meara on February 27, 2009 – 10:55 pmNo Comment

A couple of weeks ago we ran a link to an excellent interview conducted by the canine newspaper, Dog World who spoke in detail to Caroline Kisko of the Kennel Club and RSPCA chief vet Mark Evans.

As the dog industry newspaper renowned for its attention to high quality journalism and balanced coverage of a variety of canine issues, the journal has come under fire from – astonishingly – one of its OWN contributors!

The weekly ‘Trumpeter’ column, penned by a Kennel Club ‘insider’ took a pot shot at the hand that feeds, or in this case gives a platform, to it by asking: ‘Is Dog World on Our Side?

Well, that’s certainly got one thing out in the open. This canine welfare debate HAS, in the eyes of the Kennel Club at least, become a ‘pick your sides’ issue.

On the one side; The RSPCA – Britain’s largest animal welfare charity – along with others such as The BBC, Passionate Productions (makers of Pedigree Dogs Exposed) and of course any other media outlet that sees fit to call the Kennel Club to account over the failure to improve the health of many sick, ill and disabled pedigree dogs – and on the other side, well, ah, it seems that’s becoming more cloudy by the day.

For their part, Kerry Williamson co-owner of Dog World, sets the record straight in response to the ‘Trumpeter’s playground level interrogation with a sensible and empassioned response, worthy of attention. You can read it here.

One would hope that sooner rather than later, it will be possible for people, organisations, media et al to be able to question what more needs to be done to assist the health of pedigree dogs and stimulate the debate that NEEDS to happen without being blacklisted by a hyper-sensitive, insular group with a rather worrying talent for petty backbiting. It’s really not something that will help dogs either now or in the future.

KC still fiddling while Rome burns!

'Clarges Street Clarion by Trumpeter', how very, very Gosford Park, classic establishment, hey wake up it's 2008 not 1908!

Now that the revolution has arrived (reform of the breed standards) the ancien regime cannot handle it, pay them off and get new people on board!
