Portuguese Water Dog is breed of choice for Obama’s Girls

Obama’s children, Sasha 7 and Malia 10, were promised a puppy when their father was elected president of the United States.

People Magazine have reported that Michelle Obama has decided upon a Portuguese Water Dog, a breed with a good temperament and that does not shed it’s hair, as Malia suffers from allergies.

Michelle Obama told People Magazine they were hoping to get the dog in April.

“From size perspective, it’s sort of middle of the road – it’s not small, but it’s not a huge dog. And the folks that we know who own them have raved about them.”

Veteran Senator Ted Kennedy owns two of the breed Splash and Sunny and said he was ”Proud to endorse the Portuguese Water Dog as the next first dog of the United States”.

His dog Splash was also featured as a narrator in Mr Kennedy’s children’s guide to US politics – My Senator and me: A Dog’s Eye View of Washington DC.

He said, ”They have a can-do and hopeful spirit. They are smart. They are resilient. They are determined. They are optimistic. They are tireless. Sounds like the perfect fit for the Obama family and the Obama administration”.

It is reported in People Magazine that the Obama’s haven’t decided upon a name yet, but Michelle Obama told the magazine ”A few are floating around and they’re bad. Frank was one of them and Moose was another.” She added that she had told her daughters to work on the names a little.
